Old Bull--
Man, I'm glad to see movement in the Womb! A very nice update, with interesting selections and thoughtful criticism.
I think, perhaps, I've been a "lazy" TSOOL listener, hearing those Stones lessons (as well as some Pink Floyd and other late 60's psychrock) loud and clear. An interesting angle you allow here; I'll have to give this one a listen.
Now: let me just say this. Michio Kurihara has become my own personal Captain Cool. I love that guy as much as one can love a man you've never met from the other side of the Blue and Green. His solo disc is a nice ride, and that Stars album...well, anyone who reads this site should go buy two copies of that bad boy and treat it like Church. Holy Rock and Roll, Batman. And to think this guy can't even support himself playing music--it's absurd.
Also, can't wait to hear that Akron/Family album. Gira mines nuggets as well as everything else he does--I'm sure this is a don't-miss.
And yeah, "Celestial Explosions" is pure magic. I was so pleased with this one. If Earth has one of those mirrored twins in some other dimension, where everything looks like film negatives, and down is up, evil is good, and McDonald's is healthy...I think this record would be the polarized version of Toby Keith or something. Simply gorgeous.
Keep up the fine work. I appreciate all the worthwhile recommendations (and the funny business, too).

I am just about to get a bit drunk here...anyway, another great update Lee. We've been longing for some action in the womb for quite some time now...

The best Soundtrack stuff is on the first two albums, especially "Welcome to the Infant Freebase." It's not innovative or original at all, just heartfelt and slammin'...Most indie snobbies can't enjoy anything that's remotely like anything else from the past, and TSOOL doesn't try to hide influences. It's almost like they're saying, "You like us? Then try this!"

I Like "Welcome to the Infant Freebase" a lot but I am not quite as fond of their most recent albums. On a similar note...I saw Dungen live the other week and it was surprisingly good.
"Glad to hear you can still hold your liquor!"
ha ha...I am paying a bit for my sins today.

Man, I had to come back and say that Akron/Family is by far the greatest surprise I've encountered in some time. Seriouly, let me echo the Womb's author in saying this one is special! If you only buy one record this year, this would be my recommendation.
