Looking for details about chainsaw. This was the first reference I could find. On Canal World Forums, general advice seems to be they are not worth the trouble/expense. I presume you disagree ? Advice
What safety equipment does Vic use?
TIA HNY

John,
Chainsaws are dangerous pieces of equipment. We do use one on No Problem as you know, and always have done. But Vic is very experienced with them, using them in his job for most of his life.
He does not wear any safety equipment at all, he never has done, he never will. That is Vic, I can't change that, but I am very wary of what he is doing and I keep him as safe as I can.
We enjoy logging and it gives us plenty of excercise as well as saving us quite a lot of money which would have been spent on coal. This year we are only burning logs, although we have about 6 bags of coal aboard in case we can't find wood.
I ask landowners first before we enter the land and cut wood unless it is very handy on the obvious towpath or BW owned land.
It is up to individuals what advice they take from who. Whenever I post pictures on the No Problem blog of Vic using the chainsaw I always get a lot of people worried about what we are doing, that is fair enough.
I think the general thoughts on the Canalworld are that it isn't worth the effort or risk.. but it is up to you of course John.
