Sue,
This is really a comment on Thursday's post, but I can't get the link to work. Re-signwriting: When you get to Grub Street you'll see two boats tied up on the offside at a sort of workshop/wharf area just past the winding hole. If there's anyone around ask for "John" (I think he's called). He works at Norbury Wharf but does signwriting in his spare time. You could also ask after him at the pub at Norbury Junction. He did my neighbour's boat earlier this year and they were v. pleased with it.

Jim,
I wonder if the name was Trevor? I have made enquiries and there is a Trevor at Grubb Street that does signwriting.. but I will enquire after a John as well.. maybe there are two of them?
Thanks for the tip off!

Sue,
Its more than likely that its "Trevor". I'm hopeless with names! I hope he can do the job whatever he's called! Have a look at "Poppy" moored next to Starcross on the non-towpath side just north of Norbury Junction visitor moorings if you want to see a sample of his work.
