Hilmorton locks - I take it there are two parallel flights? so if they are run in 'opposite' directions - as in one boat down and the other up there could be interesting water management solutions.....transferring water sideways could save 1/2 lock of water each time.... but I bet they kept things simple.

Dear Sue,
Les and I have just enjoyed catching up with your news. We will be updating 'Valerie' in the next couple of days as Les has finally taken a pic of me which I'll allow to be shown!
We would be interested to know what new laptop you had bought, ie memory size, hard drive speed etc as this will be one of our important decisions to make.
Les says 'safe boating and good health to you both, see you soon' regards Sue

Hi Sue, Ooo a piccy of you.. I will be watching the blog with interest I'll put the computer details on the next blog, others have asked me the same question.. I do hope I have bought OK, it's early days, but I am very pleased with it so far.
Ron,
These particular locks were built purely to ease congestion. There are other flights such as the Atherstone flight that we have just gone through that do have side pounds which takes half the water from the lock being empties which it then half fills the lock again when it needs filling if you see what I mean. Unfortunately these are not in use anymore..
It's a pity they have been left to ruin because that particular flight does have restrictions on use during a dry summer.
The Watford Flight has much the same in full working order though.. it takes a bit of thinking to get the right paddles open at the right time though

The blogs came to an end in October 2005. I hope that all is well with you. What a pity that I didn't discover the blog until this evening.
