Hi Sue,
have I mentioned that we have friends who live at marsden on the Hudds Narrow?
They are up at the top, near standedge tunnel; Uppermill is the next village down (everywhere is down from Standedge cos it's the summit of the canal) towards Hudds.
We have walked past the site of the CanalCam on our way to Slaithwaite (propounced slawit) where, by the lock in the village centre, there is a cafe based in a converted NB.
Ron's mine of useless information - you know it makes sense
If you happen to be up the narrow next summer let me know and We (3 or4) will make a trip to show you all the local pubs.

OOOPS
Uppermill is the saddleworth side.
Well we didn't walk there, went there by car. There is a brilliant cheese stall in the market IIRC, and the local museaum has a mini woollen mill, complete with Spinning Mule - that was the place i realised that both girls had been taught a nursey rhyme in Weymouth that referred to the Spinning Mills of the NOrth....
Care to guess the Nursery Rhyme?

OK... Old Mother Hubbard?
"She went to the sempstress to buy him some linen,
When she came back the dog was spinning.
The reel when 'twas done, was wove into a shirt,
Which served to protect him from weather and dirt."

Hiya,
Found your blog through links to CanalCam Blog. Sorry I'm not a narrowboat owner - just an onlooker, maybe when I retire (while to go yet!) although it wouldn't be on the HNC - 74 is far too many locks for me!
Love the fireworks pic.
Happy boating!
