Hi, Your comments are always most welcome

Hi Sue,

When I was young (!) Some friends lived on Radford Road in Coventry. We used to walk from the basin along the canal when recovering from hangovers on Sunday mornings.

One time we found a railway sleeper floating the the canal, and so made a floating work of art. I may have a photo of that somewhere...

There was also, about 3 or 4 bridges up from the basin, a complete set of bathroom china in the bottom of the canal. How did we see it? well the canal water at that point was inexplicably clear; there was a factory just a bit further along putting hot 'water' into the canal. I don't know if the clarity and the hot water were connected.

Somehow I doubt the canal water is clear today - in those days the basin had just started to be renovated and the canal restored - but I do suspect that the bathroom china (pink IIRC) is still there.

The canal basin is just outside the inner ringroad and the town- if you take the direct road to the town centre from the basin it takes all of 5 mins to walk it.

The centre of Coventry is odd, but only to be expected from a place that was almost completely flattened in WWII. SPon Street is the only surviving Lady Godiva era street... The new cathedral is 'interesting' - I would describe it as brutal. The old one is much nicer if less complete

Enjoy Coventry. It's an odd place but has a certain charm - there was even an eastern European Deli in the concrete jungle somewhere (Top deck fo the two floors, in a corner of one of the courtyards)

Best Wishes

Gravatar Hi Sue and Vic,

We just got back from Florida after attending a doll convention and show. We are buying dolls for the new year, and have now completed most of our ordering. It is good to be home back in California.

I enjoyed reading your last two blogs describing your trip down the Ashby. It sounds like you are traveling quite quickly on your journey to Coventry. Good luck with your new boots and safe traveling.

Thanks for your great blogs,

Mark

Gravatar The tunnel i enter with my fear
Those walls not tall but oh so near
Drips down my back oh heck
At 4mph what a trek
Ahead a light i can see
Saviour, freedom, is that a tree
As i exit i shed a tear
For with my freedom still fear.
