Sue
I believe that there is a small boatyard on the run into Coventry which works with BWB and the Council to keep the canal clear. I think that they do a clean-up about once a week and have even pulled a three piece suite from the canal.
Can't remember the name of the yard but they have their own small hire fleet and the also run the restaurant boat the Coventrian.

Hi Sue
Thanks for the information on Coventry Basin which I will visit next time I am in the area. I have not been there myself although I have cruised most of the rest of the Coventry canal and I too was surprised at how pleasant it was. Of course there are areas which are not too nice as there are everywhere but these are in the minority. I have never understood this penchant moronic people have for dumping rubbish (in canals and anywhere else) especially when, if they leave it out for the bin men it will be collected. Where I live, if you phone the council up they will pick up 3 large items at a time at no charge but people still dump it. It must cost them more in petrol to drive into the country to dump it than it would for the price of a phone call or to take it to the tip themselves!
Regards

Val, I totally agree with you on the rubbish aspect. But some councils will only take one bin full. It begs the question Do black bin liners in a canal constitute fly tipping? I think not!
Oh yes, do visit Coventry Basin, you will be well pleased you did.

Gillian, Yes I did hear that. I guess the boatyard must be the one at Bridge 5a, Clubline I think it is. That is in fact the place we hired a boat from quite some time ago that I mentioned on the blog

Hi Steven,
Yes we really enjoyed the basin, and yes, for sure we will be back, and we will recommend it to others as well. Before our visit this time we had not been down the coventry canal for many years, what a change now.. it is a delight all the way. Keep up the good work, I am sure you will have many visitors.

hi sue thanks for your nice comments, we do our best to keep the basin good and tidy,we get an average of 600 boats a year in the basin.
we the council have just redecked the swing bridge as its was getting dangerously slippy and are now working on replacing the trees around the peninsula as they are causing the blocks to be raised with their roots..will keep you informed of developments around coventry if you wish.you can email me anytime..steve
