Hi, Your comments are always most welcome

Gravatar Sue,
Sorry I missed you today. I did think of you at lunch time tootling round Popes Corner in the sunshine - as I was 'on lunch duty' in the dining hall with 56 very special needs children. I bet we were putting out more decibels than you! I teach in a special school in Bury st Edmunds - a real challenge but a job I love.
I did go over to the boat late this afternoon and after a quick check-up, popped into Ely and wandered along the Town Wharf. I saw NB Balmaha moored up but no sign of No Problem.
Our boat is going to be out of the water in a couple of weeks for blacking and re-naming. When its done I'll e-mail you a picture. You wouldn't have seen us on the way past at Popes Corner as we are moored in the marina on the River Cam side. Its a lovely spot, really peaceful and we have good livaboard neighbours.
All the best for your trip back to the Kennet and Avon. Vic had better eat plenty of Shredded Wheat because some of those paddles and gates can be tricky!

Gravatar Hi Vic and Sue,

Looks like beautiful cruising weather, and from reading some other blogs it seems like many people have ended their summer cruises and there aren't many hire boats around. That was a very short hire season of maybe 10 or 12 weeks. Glad that you cruise continuously and maintain this great blog.

Got my new Canal Boat Magazine yesterday and I saw they have an article about the K&A. Will read it this weekend. After all of my positive comments about the recipes it looks like this month's recipe for the pork chops isn't so good. Hope I didn't give you a bum steer.

We stayed up last night and watched the 1947 film "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." It was fun to see the English coast and the scenes in the cities from that period. Fun movie. Recommended.

Hope you have a great weekend. Best wishes,

Mark

Gravatar RAF Wyton ah, now there is a name I remember well from my Navy days. I was staioned there with 360 Sqdn Camberras in 1980/1. It was 50/50 navy and RAF personel. Spent many a happy night at the Jolly Butchers in Wyton villege.

Gravatar heh - the weather for sure was better than last year in Ely...... It was a trifle wet as I recall. Glad to hear the holday cruisers have left the system - you have a chance of a nice trip to the westcountry.
Why is it that some holiday crusiers moan about CCs? I can see why the other way round (its the grockle effect)... I guess I never hear the grockles moaning about us natives in sunny Weymouth.
best wishes to all.

Gravatar Gail,

Darn it, I thought you were going to be at your boat about lunch time. You might have missed us in Ely, we are right up the other end by the station and the bridge that goes to Newmarket.. next year then for sure we must have that cuppa!

Many thanks for the good wishes for our trip to the K&A.. However I don't think I will boost Vic up with too much shredded wheat, he has put on a bit of weight and could do with some 'hard work locks' after all the easy ones over here in East Anglia!! PS Don't tell him I said that!!

Mark,

You do enjoy England a lot, I can tell by what you write.. I didn't get the Canalboat this month, so not tried out the recipe, but obviously you didn't like that one!

To be honest Mark, there are hardly any hireboats in this part of the country, that's why we like it over here in the East of England so much during the summer.. be a different story in a couple of weeks when we join the main canal waterways and join the queues for locks again!

Glad you enjoyed the jolt of memory.. I must ask my father about the Jolly Butchers, I bet he had a few jars in there!

Ron,

Yes it sure was wet that weekend..

Well I do have my moans about the hire cruisers from time to time, but I also remember when I was 'one of them', so tend to be more tolerant than most!
