Hi, Your comments are always most welcome

Hi Sue and Vic
Could you clarify something for me?
Why do you have to pay more for diesel living on a boat than someone living in a house.
Do you use it differently to anyone else.
Or have I got the wrong end of the stick.
Oh and by the way its Gummit not Government.
Love the refit, and tell Vic I'm sweating for him.

Roger M.

Gravatar I think I would settle for £1.27 max for a gallon of diesel.

Gravatar Hi Sue,
have been an avid reader of your blog for months now and must say it is an inspiration.
Never commented before, but re the price of diesel, the figures must be wrong surely as that would mean diesel would be 28p a litre.
Anyway, will keep reading and marvelling at your work.
Jim

Gravatar Hi Sue and Vic,

Great to read about the tremendous progress you are making on MkII. It seems like every day you are completing a big project. When do you plan to move on board?

We've been so busy with the January doll sale. All has gone well. We are having a very dry winter in California and it looks like we may have a drought this summer. Hope the brochure has arrived in good condition.

Best wishes,

Mark

Gravatar I don't know who Robert is but I do know most of the people negotiating with Govt on BW's part and I don't recognise his name.

In any event, he definately has the expected price of diesel wrong, it is likely to be between 90p-£1.10 a litre I believe. But we can expect long delays before that happens and it may even be that some form of compromise is found as the additional income expected from the change is less than the cost of monitoring.

Someone asks why the cost to boats will be more than the cost to housing. Well that question has two answers. First by 'cost to housing' I expect that means for heating; the cost for heating isn't changing, its the cost of diesel for propulsion that will change. So boats will have to pay the same as a car. However, and this is the second part of the answer, it will cost more to buy that diesel from marinas etc simply because they won't have the volume discounts that, for example, Tesco do. We at SOW see this price differential as forcing boaters to buy their diesel from non-canal sources thus damaging the canal-based economy (and also risking greater polution through spillage).

These are important issues and still well worth writing to your MP about asking him for the Minister's comment.

Cheers

Gravatar Who is that guy Daily? He's a fraud for sure.

Gravatar Hello all
Sue I forgot to ask, has Vic conected the pedal exersizer to the batteries yet

Will.
I did mean the vehicle/engine fuel in my comment.
I understand the point, turnover, and as you state the loss of revenue to the cut from those that can, and will, go elswhere.
Just had a vision of a line of fuel tankers on bridges over the cut LOL.
Could be another type of delivery for Tesco.
Can also see another same related risk. heating oil.
Can also see a lot of tourist revenue being lost, the Hire companies will have to increase costs to cover the increase.

Roger

Gravatar Hi Sue, Just a thank you message-we used your satellite set up information and found the dot in the sky. Just started out today on our liveaboard travels and were struggling with the manufacturers instructions. Bye for now, Elsie

Gravatar A lot of comment on this one..

Roger,

We are going to have to pay more for our heating diesel than those living in a house because most do not have a seperate tank to hold fuel to run the boilers or fires. We use the same tank for fuel for propolsion.. this is the problem. It is almost impossible to put in another diesel tank for 'heating fuel', and in any case the cost would be massive. Far more than the savings we would get between white and red diesel.

As well as that, it is highly unlikely that boatyards will not want to put in more tanks under their quays.. very costly.. they are only likely to offer us one colour!.. WHITE!

Mick,

Teehee me too Mick!

Jim,

I think they guy meant per litre, I am afraid a few including me have been a bit tongue in cheek!

Mark,

Many many thanks for the brochure, I have really enjoyed it so much. It has been lovely to see exactly how No Problem Mk2 used to be. I will treasure it. Glad to hear you are busy and that Sharlene seems well..

Will,

Yes, I guess a lot will scamper off to the local Tesco close to the canals for fuel, lots of spillage into the waterways me thinks from the flimsey carry cans.. not good. I hope it is not higher than you estimate.. I had in mind in excess of £1.20 a litre at the very least.

It is worth people writing to their local MP, but as I saw in one report, it wouldn't have mattered how many letters were written, Europe had already made their minds up and were looking at nothing us public wanted to throw at them.

Martin,

Probably!

Roger,

Yep, well we can get the coal lorries to deliver at a convenient bridge, so why not the tankers!

Elsie,

Hey... well good luck to you.. glad you got the spot in the sky, easy innit.. hope we meet. Best wishes on your new ventures and good luck xx

Sue
