Willeymoor - "I'm a little teapot short and stout......."
Llangollen ( "Klaan" the locals call it) is surely a must-do for every boater. No wonder there are so many hire boats around in the season.
Glad you enjoyed it in the end.
Motor on !

But the Swanley boat ranch - wow. Can you imagine the queues at Hurleston if that lot all came out ??????

Excellent reading as usual and great photos - but you keep calling the lift bridges 'swing bridges'!

Sue. So glad to hear you enjoyed the Llangollen canal after all! With good weather the views really are spectacular, aren't they? The nice thing we found were the Prees Branch and Monty, where you could get some respite from the Llangollen traffic for awhile. Sure hope BW starts spending a bit more money on upkeep! Enjoy your trip south!

Martin,
Not sure what you meant.. "Willeymoor - "I'm a little teapot short and stout.......""?
Sounds interesting
Well it is a must do for boaters.. I have been saying for nearly 20 years, "I must do the Klaan!" I love "Boat ranch" Do they breed those narrowboats in Wales then?
John,
I think I call them swing bridges because of my many, many hours on the Kennet and Avon Canal, where the majority of "Get off boat and do something" are swing bridges.. Of course I meant lift bridges!.. But I aint gonna edit it.. hey after all, nobody is perfect!

Well the canal is busy for sure. I have some old guide books aboard No Problem and Vic and I were looking at them today.. some books about the Llangollen Canal. Quote... "The best time to visit Llangollen itself is at the weekend.. most hire boats go out on Sat, Sun or Mon.. so there are no boats in Llangollen at the weekends.. during the summer expect 150-170 boats a week on the canal...."
Sheeesh is that all!!.. now that WOULD be quiet in modern times eh?!!

John and Anne,
Yes I did enjoy.. now I have to decide whether to go and enjoy Chester!
Well the weather forecast is good for the next four days, so I think I might go for it!
Glad to rekindle memories for you both.. hopefully will bring you back to enjoy again..

Thanks for your positive 'review' of the Kennet & Avon - we've never been there but our boat is being moved to Devizes for next year's cruising, so we are now looking forward to it very much!

The K&A is a lovely canal especially to the west of Devizes.. give yourselves plenty of time, don't be in a rush and you will enjoy. Some of the lock gates need a good shove that's the only thing, as well as some of the swing bridges which seem at times to 'get stuck'. So it might take two of you to swing those and two of you to open lock gates!
Be prepared to climb up and down ladders in the locks to help out lockside sometimes John!

Willeymoor Lock Tavern - didn't you dine there? Anyhow it's just crammed with ornamental teapots - hundreds!
Lift bridge / swing bridge what's the odds - even BW and Nicholsons get it wrong sometimes
