Hi, Your comments are always most welcome

Enjoy your dinner at The Lazy Otter - the chocolate pud is to die for ! Don't forget to take a torch, that path can be pretty dark getting back to the GOBA mooring after a pint or a glass of something.
Sorry to hear about all your problems at Ely, lets hope they are all behind you and you have a great cruise down towards Bedford.

Gravatar Hi Sue

That's exactly what I had in mind.

Did David Mercer ever contact you or did he go to ground with his tail between his legs?

Anyway seems those with at least a 1/4 of a brain have sided with you on the matter.

Glad to see you on the move again.

Cya

Kevin

Gravatar That's a terrible end for an old boat... If I could have it, it'd be gone by morning. Chequered Flag and friends are mored next to me at Mailer's meadow. Glad to see they've plenty of dogs on board. Have changed the background colour on our gob2020 forum and added some nice pics of the river. We have also made it easy to view and post to on mobile phones.

Gravatar Gail, Kevin and Harry,

Gail, I had the apple pie pud... yum that was georgous.. I am glad my next 'weigh in' is next Sunday, it will give me a chance to drop the many pounds I must have put on tonight!

Not only is that path dark, but it is slippy too!!.. but I made it!

Kevin,

Many thanks Kevin for all you have done over the last few weeks to speed up the mending of the gearbox, and for the idea for the diesel cap, and of course for your support over the GOBA upset.

David Mercer has not contacted me, I am not expecting him to.. I doubt he will want to back down on what he said.. never mind, I am OK with that, I just wanted to put the record straight.. I am a continuous cruiser yes, and a proud one who does it right, or tries to.. as you know my circumstances were very very unusual.

Harry, We are slowly making our way your way.. I met chequered flag in ely, although Jane was at the chippy.. yes thanks, the background for the blog is so much better for me now..

Sue

Gravatar Just a thought...

Could you disguise your fuel filler cap, then make your grey water cap look like the fuel cap?

Gravatar Hi Sue,
It certainly looks bleak out on the fens in that rain! Makes me almost (repeat "almost") glad to be in a warm and dry office instead!

I bet you are gald to get away from Ely though!

Jim
PS My blog now on http:// www.narrowboatstarcross.b...ss.blogspot.com Any chance you could change your link?

Gravatar TimZim and Jim,

TimZim, Ha that would be good.. pity we have to have the correct labels put beside the various caps and taps on this boat isn't it!

I have seen a couple of new ideas that are going to be sold d.
in the shops soon for about £20.. I like the look of a non returning valve type thingy that fits in to the tube.. there is no way that fuel can be taken out if one of those is fitted.

It would be a money spinner for the inventor of a nice cheapish gaget that we can all use..

Jim,

Hey it is great around here, nothing like the motorway type cruising on the canals.. all very very quiet and slow.. same weather as you are getting Jum!!

Yep will update shortly.. thanks.

Gravatar We came through Ashton lock a couple of days back, its in the middle of nowhere. Do you think it was taken by another boater while you were walking the dogs?
We are now at Benwick so we may meet you somewhere on route.

Gravatar Brian,

Yes, we think we know who took the diesel and yes a boater.. but I am not going to publically accuse anyone of doing it because at the moment I can't prove it.. I had a feeling something had gone on there when we all went out to Oundle for the day.. ho hum, maybe I might see that boat again.. and if I find out for sure then I will inform the authorities..

Gravatar Hi Sue

I know it is a dodgy thing, but publishing the name of the boat may well put pay to his / her / its activities!

If you are wrong I am sure an apology would set things right from any understanding and sympathetic boater.

Is it the same one that has been mentioned around where I am moored? It seems that is an undesirable boater around here according to the gossip.

Hard call I know.

Kevin

Gravatar Kevin again.. I will name the boat if I see it again.. we are almost certain now that this boater stole the diesel, but I don't know the name of the boat... YET!

No not around where you are moored.. the boat was moored at Ashton Lock on the River Nene at the time.

Sue

Gravatar Sue,
Not wishing to be a party pooper, but you do realise that drilling a hole in the diesel spill rail will not conform to the boat safety standards and may fail when next examined.
Regards to you both
Mark & Lorain

Gravatar Mark & Lorain,

How nice to hear from you.. we were talking about you today actually.. all nice of course Mark xx

Yes, or no we did not realise, but we never gave it a thought. Of course the lip is to stop the diesel spilling into the boat if it should be over filled, For sure the hole is someway up that lip. I am wondering if there is an actual measurement of height.

Other narrowboats have no lip, just a tank tap flush with the deck.. so how do they get away with safety?

I will get some advise on what to do when I next bump into a safety officer .

Thanks for pointing that out.. Don't suppose you are popping in at St Neots are you?

Sue
