hello,
we too are thinking of retiring onto our boat later this year (if th'oldun decides he's calling it a day!!!). I have recently been diagnosed with a possible long term health problem and am concerned how i would go about continuous health care and screening. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Dave,
Well a lot of years, a lot of tools.. I suppose it's like 'Men and Motors' is it?
Now I get.. "This one belonged to my father" says he.. "Can't throw that out".. etc etc.. hence the big tool box!
lol,
Hello, well now a big subject. If you do have a major ongoing health problem then you need to be in touch with either your own doctor or another, which means that you do need to be static or willing to visit your own doctor as regularly as needed.
Mostly you can sign on to a new doctor as a temporary patient if you are on the move, but until they have completed the national nhs patient data computer system, only your own doctor will have your notes.
You can carry your notes around with you while you cruise, but that is expensive.. the docs charge a fortune to write up your notes for you to take with you.. you actually are entitled to do that if you wish though.
I think the best thing to do is to talk to your own doctor and tell him/her what you want to do in your retirement.. be very honest with your doctor as well as being determined with your future retirement, and see what he/she is able to offer you as a service and what he will be willing to do about your possible health problem. It may be that it is just drugs you need, this is not a problem.
My advice then is talk to your doc.. but be determined with him that you do not intend being a couch potato for the rest of your retirement.
Hope that helps
Sue
