Hi, Your comments are always most welcome

Gravatar Hello Sue and Vic,

Well we are back from Chicago and have been packing and shipping like mad trying to catch up. Finally I'm pretty current and thought I'd spend a few minutes reading your blog. I always enjoy your postings and it seems like you've been very busy with your postings during the past 10 days. Love all of the pictures. Glad you are doing well.

Best wishes,

Mark

Gravatar Hello Sue

When you use your satellite set up does it lose signal if the water /wind is choppy, especially if its aimed port or starboard rather than fore and aft.

The reason I ask is that Free view is not that good still and we have a box at home on a £10 extra p/m contract that never gets used independently. I could use that on the boat and have all my home channels as well.

Still at Fox's waiting for the replacement engine to be serviced. Any idea when you gonna be this way?

I think Diesel is 82.5 here.

Gravatar Hi Sue,
have you splashed out on some solar panels for charging your batteries yet?

We have two 15W panels charging a leisure battery (110Ah or something like) which is used to drive lights (up to 80W) and with a charge controller we seem to break even between daytime charging and night time use. The panels don't need full sunlight either. Of course, the panels will take up roof space which you use for stacking wood, but on NP there is quite a bit of rooftop real estate...

Gravatar Mark, Kevin and FOR,

Mark,

You are always busy!

At least you get some calm down time reading the blog?

Kevin,

No, we don't lose signal even if No Problem moves 4ft up and back with boats passing. For sure it doesn't get choppy enough to lose the signal.

To be honest, once locked on, we very very rarely.. like twice in 7 years.. lose the signal for any reason.

We do tend to put a 'spring' on when mooring at the stern.. ie one rope forward one rope aft.. this tends to hold her well in postion.

FOR,

Yes Ron, have given that thought, but the outlay far outways the need. I have calculated that a large battery bank changed every two years is cheaper than solar panels for our needs..

I think solar panals are idea for those who moor their boats to keep their fridges going etc, but for livaboards there needs to be huge banks of them to make it a worthwile project.

Sue
