Hi Sue. Enjoy your blog as always. I have been reading a lot about possible impact of increased diesel prices in UK (in PBO, etc). Agree that road tax component should not be included, but apart from that, argument that price should be kept low is weak. It may cost you bp2.75 an hour in future; however, what will be equivalewnt cost per hour for a car assuming 10 litres per 60 miles? Price of diesel here on Oz (~A$1.85) sig. more than petrol and haven't noticed any reduction in boat use.

Subject: Mid Summer Fair Cambridge ( New topic )

Just a reminder that next week is not a good time to visit Cambridge by Boat.
The Midsummer fair arrives on 16th Jun for around a week. Historically, the Camboaters have suffered verbal and physical abuse, theft and damage to boats during this event - hence most of them will be fleeing Cambridge this weekend for a week or so. Cambridge Council has advised them to move away including rafting-up above Jesus Lock.
Many Camboaters are GOBA members, and use this period to cruise the rest of the system, lets hope the river is not in flood!!!
Are you back @ Ely? txt me if you are.

Sally, Andrew and Kevin again..
Sally,
It sure is in a sad state. I remember visiting it back in 2005, I loved it, very laid back it was.. we enjoyed a meal in there too.
It doesnt look as if it is ever going to be repaired though sadly..
Andrew,
I can understand your poing, trouble is the diesel has gone up too much too fast. For sure we have not expected it to rise so high, it is eating into our yearly budget.
I hope it settles soon.
Glad you enjoy the blog over in Aussie.. thanks for reading my mutterings..
Kevin,
I think you are making comments as I am answering the latest ones!!
Yes we are in Ely again with no gearbox, that is not in Ely.. gone far afield I think.
We wouldn't go to Cambidge while the festival is on nor the May bumps which are held in June aren't they? One of the oddities of the 'eights' world!
No doubt see you sometime this week..

Hi Kevin And Sue, think we have the sister boat to you and have had what seems to be the same problem as you with the gear box. Give me a ring before taking any drastic action and I'll explain.
Regards,
Ken and Marion

Ken and Marion,
Many thanks Ken for all the information. It was nice to have a chat on the phone and compare the two sister boats.
Glad you are enjoying reading the blog, and look forward to seeing you both perhaps in the autumn or winter months
