Hi, Your comments are always most welcome

Gravatar I seem to recall going up and down the Foxton in 1976 - that scorching summer when my folks hired a NB & I swam in the canal to cool off (quite unpleasant). Anyway I've just booked my 50th birthday treat - hiring NB York from Shire cruisers up at Sowerby Bridge on the Rochdale just after Easter. Me & the wife and our two teenage children plus boy/girlfreinds plus dog (bit of a squeeze but that comes with the territory I guess). I might try your Tesco trick as we'll never fit everything in the car.

By the way, if ever you're bored and you pass a modest property with around 62ft of mooring for sale - do take a snap or note the agent's phone number for me - doesn't matter where really. They're very difficult to come across even online. Bit of a cheek but there we are.

I thought your camera was on the blink at first with that colour - 'magic hour' it's often called I think.

Cheers

ben

Gravatar Hi Sue, I'm an avid reader and follow your blog whenever I can, we live in Nottingham so you are on our patch.
We have had an x Canaltime nb for 3 seasons.
I write because I am a bit suprised that you never mentioned the statue of the canal horse and boy at the top of Foxton locks, 50 yards from the last bridge before decending...... Beutifull'
Well worth a walk if you are still in the area.
I'm also a bit suprised that you had a good meal in the Foxton pub, I took a party of 6 for Sunday lunch, and the meal was "Pants", cold "Chewey" beef and the lamb was at least 2 days old...
If you are planning to continue up the Grand Union, be aware that the last lock bfore entering Leicester propper (After the windy bits, past the sunken BW Boat) is known to throw up the odd obstruction........ two frocks for my last 2 visits, and a shopping trolly for a friend. (Cost him a new prop, and a pair of Bolt cutters).
All the best......... NB Slowdown.. RM&S.. Roy, Moira and Sally.

Gravatar Ben, Alex and Roy............

Ben,

You sure are a glutton for punishment Ben and all on your 50th too! A notoriously hard canal with lots and lots of locks.. tis nice though to be fair!

Yep and quite happy to try take some pics for you.. in fact Ben, there are quite a lot of those we pass.. I'll keep my eye out..

The light in that pic is almost as it was..

Alex,

Many thanks Alex.. when I came back with no plug, Vic made a modification to the one we have and it works just fine for now.. I'll come across one soon I am sure, but many thanks for your help.

Roy,

No I didn't go to the top yet.. I know we passed it on the way from Watford Locks, but we had to stay by the boat and wait for the lockeeper to decide whether we would decend that day or not. I will have to walk back up to go have a closer look. I forgot about that, thanks for the reminder.

The meal really was very good.. sometimes sunday lunches can be bad.. maybe they didnt prepare properly or something..

Many thanks for the warning of rubbish.. Frocks round the prop, now there's a new one.. tights yes, but frocks!!

Sue
