Every time I read your blog it brings back happy memories. The first Canal boat holiday we had was a trip up the Llangollen on a BWB hire boat from their base at Nantwich, I remember clearly that it was the Water Tulip,it was the week before Easter, and was the start of the long summer of 1976.

Two years later we hired the same boat, and much against the wishes of the miserable guy at the base, we decided to do the 4 counties ring, we knew that there were stopages at Stone, but these were scheduled to be finished in time, however when we got to Stone they were still working on the top lock, so we had no option but to retrace our tracks, so in point of fact we did a greater distance.

In 1988 we hired a boat from Norbury junction and did complete the ring, I bought a tee shirt with all the statistics on it, sadly it doesn't fit any more............ maybe it shrank in the wash??

Hi Sue and Vic,

I certainly hope you will do the Four Counties Ring. I did this route in 1997 and have very fond memories. You might also add a side trip to Chester...great fun to visit the walled city.

While I share your feeling about dentists I go every four months so it never gets too bad. Still I understand your comment about locking the door.

Well we also cruised the same area in the same year about the same time.. I wonder if we crossed paths all that time ago?!!

I have not been around these parts for a long time, and maybe a blessing in disguise this year.. with a new narrowboat and logistics this is why we are not over in East Anglia, so maybe it is right that we should take this opportunity to 'do the ring'. For sure it will be queue queue time, but thats OK!

I am sure the 'been there seen it done it' t shirt has shrunk in all this rain??

Looks like the four counties ring is on the cards tonight.. so a 90% possibility..

Ho hum every 4 months.. I cant work out how many times you have visited your dentist since I visited mine.. must be hundreds!
