Word of warning when out walking near the Shroppie, The farmers up there seem to go out of their way to deter walkers.
I was usually up about 5am for a walk with my camera and I found a lot of the footpaths blocked with rolls of barbed wire. also plowed up and blocked with all sorts of rubbish.
Llangollen well worth the cruise, very narrow in places, most of it really, and hardly a straight bit, the aquaducts are something to see.

Glad to hear Staffordshire has maintained its essential character.
When we travelled through the West Midlands, fifty years ago, we could always tell when we reached Staffordshire as the roads suddenly became very bumpy and uneven, as if to mark the county boundary.

Thank you for sharing the pictures of your grand daughters boating and working the locks. I showed the pictures to Sharlene and she got pretty excited about doing the 4 counties ring next year with our grand daughters. We called our daughter and she thought this would be a great experience for Whitney and Lindsey. So who knows, we may be off on our next narrowboat trip in the summer of 08. Sorry to read you'll be out on the rivers next year.

I have noticed very much that the footpaths are terribly difficult to follow, and thank goodness I now have memory-map on a PDA that I can carry with me, so I can literally follow a footpath while staring at it in my hand! Round here the footpaths seem non existant, I expect to find very fat people too, because, for sure, they don't do much walking!
