I think the phrase, "you don't choose your family" is completely wrong. You DO choose your family. And you can un-choose them, too. Good for you.

Way to go. Been there, but I wasn't as tactful as you were. I gave in to the temptation of throwing in spite, bitterness and a little cruelty in my conversation. You stood your ground, protected your kid and took the high road.

You did the right thing. In your shoes, I would have done the same.
Hell, I cut my own father out of my life seven years ago and haven't looked back. I'm really happy now that I'm having a son that I don't have to worry about my father being in his life.
We all have our reasons and, as mothers, our children are our priority.

Makes me more grateful to have a great grampa for my kids but so sad for yours. At least they know without a doubt that they have you and that you will stand up for them no matter who it's against. Security is worth FAR more than many understand. WTG to you.
