Thanks for stopping by my blog. I've only read a few of your posts but I can already tell that I love it. I like your writing style. Very funny. I'd love an add on your page. I'm adding you to mine. Hope to see you around some time.

Congratulations on the trophy - but I agree, only the winner should get one. The one time that my Scout patrol won the tri-county Jamboree, they refused to acknowledge it because suddenly they weren't honoring the winners anymore. It was the flip-side of what your girls experienced - NO ONE won. That was very annoying. But we knew we won.

Good job girls! Of course that reflects highly on how they are coached.
I too hate the idea of trophies for everyone. I think it is a huge waste of money and space. I would much rather they reduce my fees, not give me kids trophies, unless they won the championship.

I have been reading an interesting book called "Boys Adrift". The author has some very interesting things to say about competition and not wanting someone to lose and the detrimental affect it has for boys.

I absolutely agree that trophies for everyone is really not good for ANYONE! I believe that competition, and especially losing, is good for kids. It sounds so old-fashioned, but it really does build character! In general, we don't learn much from our successes -- we learn from the tough times.

And of course, I'm waaay down at the end of the spectrum--why do we need trophies, period? Isn't just the winning enough?
