You may discourage them from doing so by trying to help them understand Islam better, but you cannot harm or kill the person for being an apostate. This contradicts with the Islamic law of 'let there be no compulsion in religion.' In the matter of religion, it is between God and that individual - since that Muslims believe that God judges the actions of every individual in the Day of Judgment. It just says in the Koran that whoever chooses follow the teachings of Islam will be guaranteed Paradise but those who do not will not be guaranteed one - the choice is yours. God gives you the freedom of choice to choose your path of life.
