Thanks for this - I'm an old-earther myself, and it's nice to see some great, concise arguments for it from theology.

In other news, Stanford's offering a class this term I wish I could take: the Evolution of Creationism. It's a historical study of various creationist theories from ancient Greece to modern intelligent design. It purports not to critique creationism, but to chronicle the theory's history. Pretty cool idea for a class.

Linds, that Stanford class sounds interesting - although I'm not sure I trust them to do it right .

By the way, I just ran across a book which claims to show what I hinted at in my post, that the Genesis account actually does correspond closely to the story of creation told by modern science. There's always the possibility that this is a category error, and Genesis is not intended to answer these sorts of modern scientific questions. But it's also possible that Genesis is much more accurate than it has any right to be.
