That's a great post, Gabe. I've learned some of those same things being a teacher. For instance, we are supposed to walk in a straight, quiet line through the halls. I have learned that it does not work to yell, "Straighten up that line!" or "No talking in line!" while they're walking. Instead, I just calmly say, "Let's turn around and go back to the classroom and try again." It doesn't take long for them to figure out that this is a waste of their recess time and it's quicker to do it correctly the first time around. |
