While I can't comment on your music, being a halfway-to-60 year old who still listens to The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel ...
I WILL comment on the naked baby running down the street thing.
We live in a big hot city, too. Our eldest daughter was 3-ish, her little sister was 2 months old, and I was on the phone with a friend -- one morning back in 1985. That was before cordless phones, much less cellphones. Baby was asleep, I was on the phone, and I "thought" eldest daughter was safely ensconced in her room playing.
Nope. She had stripped off all of her clothes, slipped out the front door, and headed down the street to visit a friend. Hey. It was August. She was hot. I was boring. And she wanted to go play with someone.
Our across-the-street neighbor, whom we'd nicknamed "Crazy Lady" for many reasons, not the least of which was her habit of coming over each day to tell me how big her bowel movement had been that morning -- was on the job. That particular job being sitting in her front room window, watching every move we made, 24-7.
Bless her heart, she saw our eldest slip out the front door in her birthday suit and head up the block. She was kind and caring enough, despite being "Crazy Lady", to hike her halfway-to-60, classic-housedress covered self, up that block to pick up my errant kid and haul her home to our front door.
I was still on the phone with a friend when she knocked.
Can you say Classic Mother Guilt to the 12th power and umpteenth degree?

What a lovely day - you wouldn't believe how blue the sky is here. Listening to this mix is just making it all the lovelier. Right now I'd love nothing more than to drag my computer with me to the park, lie in the grass, and soak up all the goodness in the world. Thanks, Wood.

Oh Wood, this is my favorite time of year: when you post your summer mix. The one from 2006 was a constant companion on my three months of Southeast Asia travel; whether or not you realized that every one of the songs would go perfectly with the Burmese countryside as viewed from a bus window, I don't know, but they sure did.
It is embarrassing to note that I rely on you and Dutch for most of my music inspiration. Can't wait to listen to this!

While packing up for the move last week, I came across a burned CD labeled "Wood's Summer 2006 Mix." Nice timing!

I covet your bangs. Before I rush off to my stylist with a picture of your hair, can you answer a question? Your hair looks really thick. Is it actually really thick? I have very thick hair, but constantly make the mistake of falling in love with a hairstyle more suited for someone with finer or less hair. Anyway, your hair looks a bit like Leslie Feist's. Very cool.

OK, being a music moron and saying things to my husband like "ooh, I like that song, who is that?" and his eye-rolling "It's the (insert name of some rockin' top band of the moment)" only cements this fact.
But the Spoons? I heard their new song on the radio the other day and was in that complete zone of "I must have that". Then we went and had a baby and it fell out of my head. So thank you for reminding me!
And Juniper being the baby until the next one? We just had the next one and I'm still calling Jasper "the baby". And in fact, keep calling the baby Jasper as well. Sad but true.

Great mix! I, too, rely on you for music coolness cred.
I'd like to request video of Juniper doing her rock-and-roll dance, please!
And, K, I did the same thing as your eldest when I was about 3 or 4. When my mom found me, I had the next-door neighbor, a Dutch Reformed minister, cornered and was talking his ear off. I think his face is still red.

I absolutely love that photo - her little legs all crossed and looking at you in all seriousness - the nakedness is so toddler; I often leave a room only to return to one or both boys naked. LOVE Yo La Tengo - great rec!

Thanks for the update. You guys are the slightly younger, hipper versions of ourselves (I know Dutch will be annoyed by that term, but denying it only makes you more hip) so it's good to have a source to keep up with where good music is going since the "ancient" days of Pulp, the Smiths, Husker Du, James, Joy Division, Belle & Sebastian, The Divine Comedy, and all those other great bands we were listening to back when we actually had to time to go to shows and stuff. I didn't even know Jarvis had a new album! Thanks, guys.

If you like Luna's version of Bonnie and Clyde, you should listen to the original by Serge Gainsbourg. It's almost identical to this cover (except the guitar solo at the end), but Serge's voice is better and doesn't speak French with a Kiwi accent. There's also the ah-ah-oooh sound that Juniper loves.

I wish the weather would allow me to walk to work with nothing but sandals on, but the rain is constantly present at the moment in Denmark (my colleagues are probably pleased I'm dressed every morning, when I arrive). Luckily dancing around to good music in the living room doesn't require sunshine (or clothes for that matter).

Serge Gainsbourg wrote and performed the original version of Bonnie & Clyde (along with Brigitte Bardot), which is almost identical to the version that Luna did. So if you liked Luna's cover, you may want to check out the original. As a piece of trivia, that song has also been sampled in several rap songs, including one by the French rapper MC Solaar called "Nouveau Western".
