Gravatar You came back to this post and I am just dying over here with laughter.

I am a west-sider myself and yes, they do have phones in the booths. And not just on Chicago Drive in Holland. They are in the one on 28th St. in Grand Rapids too. I just ate there with my sister, niece and my grandmother (because you know, Dutch grandmas dig Russ') and we ordered on the damn phone. You know, that is kind of fucked up. Ordering on a phone.

Anyway, thanks for the giggle as I widdle away the last 15 minutes of my week. You rock, Dutch. Keep it up.

Gravatar I worked at the original Russ' in Holland with the phones - they don't talk to the cooks, they called me - the switchboard operator. I worked my way up to that - I started out as a server (one of the girls who just took food out to tables that called in their orders - and yes, they practically never left a tip, so we also worked for below minimum wage sometimes). I also had to deal with the "day ladies" who have worked there all of their lives and feel "entitled" to steal tips from other waitresses. At our restaurant, they also had problems with wait staff not tipping the busboys, so they finally eliminated busboys and the waitresses had to clear their own tables.
Fun times! At least I met my husband there...makes it all worth it
