Gravatar seriously, you lightened up an extremely crappy day around here...the oregon trail reference was nice, btw- i think my kids have cholera! damn you, preschool! you are a blessing and a curse!

a big round of happy birthdays to all you aquarians- time to make room for an avalanche of stuff! xo.

Gravatar I am literally crying laughing. At work. I love dark humor.

Gravatar Um. You just reaffirmed my deep love of your wonderful link-writing with that Freaks and Geeks link. Thank you.

Gravatar Sally Alexander lives in Pittsburgh! She came to my fourth grade class and talked about being blind! Later on, I saw her around Squirrel Hill a few times. I feel so special now.

Gravatar Hilarious. Is she always smiling?

Gravatar Awesome! With a Pittsburgh connection even!

Did you notice the computer complete with floppy disk drive?

Gravatar Oh, no. Is nothing sacred? First, the one-handed man and now this.

Is there a section on all the stuff you can get away with when mom is blind? One of the man advantages of a blind mom? Blind mom pranks?

Gravatar This book is in the fourth grade basal that I teach-- your story is much more compelling. And really, I think my students would get more out it if they wrote their own captions too.

Gravatar Love it! This is one of my favorite series that you do.

Gravatar God I love these. you could post one every week and I wouldn't get enough. And Jean Jean the Cross Eyed Queen?! Unbelievable.

"Our tap dance teacher calls my mom 'The Tripod.'" Hilarious.

Gravatar Am I the only one who got all the way across to Oregon only to be told "you buried 5 children along the way, killed several pack animals and ate your wife in the Donner Pass. Congrats to you for reaching Oregon but between your scurvy and inability to keep anyone in your party alive your expedition was too FAIL to qualify as a real Pioneer."

Or did I just dream that all of that happened in the library of Jonas Clarke Middle School circa 1992?

Gravatar As soon as I saw the words "Parisian Night Suit" my mind flashed to a vision of Weir, all blue-suited-up.

Gravatar Snorted with laughter...thanks!

Gravatar This is almost as good as the Mr T coloring books, which were devine, so these are pretty damned good.

Gravatar Oregon Trail did not prepare me adequately for real parenthood.

Not one of my children has yet died of cholera-- they just keep on livin' and livin', like hungry, whiny little oxen.

I was under the impression that they'd be taken off my hands as soon as they started getting into my stuff, leaving more room in my ride for all the squirrels I mowed down shooting from the hip over my oxen's heads.

I feel so used.

Gravatar OMG! A friend of mine just handed me this book a month or so again, wondering if it would be appropriate to give to a vision-impaired mutual friend of ours who has a child. NO, I said. A THOUSAND TIMES NO.

Gravatar Nice tap dance pic.

Gravatar I have a visually impaired parent, and that cracked me the bejeesus up.

I don't think a book would really have helped me relate to the fact that I had a visually impaired parent as a kid. It was just normal.

Gravatar I recognized this lady immediately and I thought I must be crazy. Now I find out from the comments that she lives in Pittsburgh- I've seen her several times with her dog in and around Squirrel Hill! That is too bizarre.

By the way, in the last photograph it looks like the German Shepherd wants to eat her. In reality it's probably her guide dog thinking, "Oh shit: if the blind lady does herself in I am totally out of a job."

Gravatar does she still wear those incredible sunglasses?

Gravatar She's branched out with her eye wear fashion somewhat: Sally Alexander

Gravatar My mom had sunglasses just like that. She lost them flipping out next to me on the Screaming Eagle when I was a kid.

These books you profile are priceless.

Gravatar Emily & JessicaP: You just blew my mind. I didn't recognize her right away, but once you mentioned that she lives in Squirrel Hill, I know exactly who you're talking about. WEIRD.

Gravatar I was pointed toward this website this morning and just wanted to mention that I'm completely hooked. I've been reading on and off all day (whenever I can take a break from working).

Cheers!

Gravatar Why'd you have to link to that Freaks and Geeks scene? That is hilarious but painful!!!

Gravatar Oh god. The Oregon Trail. Haven't thought of that in years. Food stuffs or bullets? Medicine or Water? OH THE DECISIONS. When they got too tough, we switched to Pong.

Gravatar Mom has AMAZING sunglasses.

Gravatar What a beautiful find! Hahahaha. Thanks for sharing.

Gravatar Oh my God the zip line is the best one.....

Gravatar Could be the funniest thing I've ever seen blogged. Thanks, Google Recommendations!

Seriously, in tears.
