I used to work for customs on the Canadian side, and you'd definitely be surprised how common it is to have a dad (or mom) kidnap a kid, especially one trying to cross the border without ID for the child. It usually happens during divorces, or after a recent failed custody battle. As annoying as it is for you and your family, it's actually policy to pull over people without ID for their kids, and has a pretty successful track record of stoping kidnappings in their tracks.
You should try being Canadian and try to cross the American border when you want to go hit up John K. King books... ("Don't they have book stores in Canada?" --July 2007)
Either way, I love your blog!! I now longer live in Windsor/Detroit, but feel so nostalgic for the area when I read your words! Thanks!!
