first: awwww...that kisses comment would have made me melt into a puddle. fo' reals.
second: i am impressed that juniper is ok with you and the nose thing. pnut screams like a banshee when i do the daily booger pull. we got a humidifier that we usually forget to fill or turn on to battle dry nose/booger issue.
third: JP2 used to wear ski pants when he went skiing, if that helps. i'm pretty sure the pope wears pants under all the robes.
i loved this post, wood. thanks. have a great weekend!

Here's another person who doesn't find the smelling like kisses comment cheezy. It's WONDERFUL, it is the delightful stuff that memories and parenthood and mother-daughter bonds are made of.

Things like the kiss smell are what make my work days hard to endure sometimes. Things like the poop and no diaper are what make my home days so hard to endure sometimes. Overall it makes me thankful for both (as long as the overall balance of smells is more kisses than poop).

if my daughter ever tells me "mama smells like kisses", I think I will cry on the spot. that is too much to take.
and falling asleep to the sound of Jon Stewart's voice is not bad either.

Your life a year ago is my life today. Except I don't work out.
A year ago today was my due date. I am having a really hard time believing that.

For the record, I found it very cheesy. But little kids can totally get away with being cheesy.

"Mama smells like kisses" - gorgeous. Heart clutchingly gorgeous.
It's great that you're teaching gymnastics to little kids. Is this a new thing?

I would assume you would smell like kisses, actually. Fantastic play-by-play.
Miss your posts. x.

i believe juniper, too. kisses would have been on the short list of things i would guess you smell like. freshly cut strawberries or a hazy purple and pink sunrise would also be on that list.
but i love it when you do this. you're a pleasure to read. xobmc

Yay! More Wood! I loved this post. Especially the part about smelling like kisses.
That's awesome that you teach a gymnastics class, too! Wherever do you find the time?

It's so nice to hear from you and to know that there's no interesting (as in that Chinese curse, 'May you live in interesting times') reason you've been MIA.
That is so neat that you're teaching gymnastics. You must feel pretty strongly about that to cram it into a life that already has a full time job, a two year old, a husband and a German short haired pointer. You make me think that if I put my mind to it, I could get back to the volunteer work I used to do...

Was that really a year ago? Feels like yesterday I was reading & laughing. Geez, time flies.
Love the kisses comment too. I think a comment like that can only be cheesy if it's insincere, clearly not the case here. My recent similar experience was Teddy saying very nonchalantly while playing with trains, "Love you Mama. So much." Then, toddling away: "Best friend Mama." I don't even know where he got that shit from. But same thing - my heart exploded and I thought: remember what that sounded like.
One note of business - we have the Clocky in the moma store. Shoot me an email if you want me to grab it for you (w/sweet staff discount).

Smelling like kisses sounds pretty good to me too. Sugar's not bad either.
Busy day. Mine are similar, in that every second is counted.

That was staggeringly funny. Not the day, per se, but the way you wrote it up.
There's got to be a Patrick Suesskind's Perfume-related joke about you smelling like kisses, but I haven't figured it out yet.

The kisses comment. AWWWW. That kind of thing is how one survives the Terrible Twos, I think. They will be so incredibly infuriating and then say something like that. I got "Mama. Best friend." the other day and it has kept me reasonably patient through a lot of defiant behavior.
An observation and a question:
Pnuts Mama is, (as usual) right on about the pope wearing pants. As a former grownup altar server, I've seen my priest before they put on all the vestments and they do wear regular pants underneath. At least, I'm assuming the pope is the same as a regular old Jesuit. I also had to wear an alb (the white robe thing that goes underneath all the vestments) yesterday and just had on regular clothes underneath. Even the monks that ran the church I grew up in, and thus wore robes, wore plain black pants underneath.
(Is it sad that I still retain enough Catholic school girl mentality to feel weird about discussing a priest's pants? yeah, pretty sad)
Question: How do you like the downtown Y? Is it worth the steep fees? And do they, or do they not, offer child care while you work out? I cannot get a straight answer out of them.
Also, can I just say how impressed I am that you three manage to carve out a walkable lifestyle like you would in a "real" city? It's the worst part about being in a neighborhood versus nearer downtown--unless I want flowers, stamps, or to pump up my bike tire, there's nowhere to walk to. Our last neighborhood was better --we at least could walk to the party store, grocery store and video place.

I felt a sappy tear well up when I read how you stopped to recall the moment with Juniper. I did the same yesterday when my little guy, who's very close in age to Juniper, commented to me "It's very nice to have you home," as he gave me a big hug. You guessed it - I'm a working mom, too. I've replayed that comment many times since.
Cool post.

What a sweet, sweet little girl Juniper is. Being a working mother is awesome and hard all at once, but I think one thing that can be said for it is that you tend to really, really appreciate those moments like that, because you feel so much that your time is limited and precious.

Another beautiful post - one which spurred me to ask my two-year-old daughter what her mommy smelled like. She replied "cheese." Oh, well.
