Voice of the Spirit Calls!

Gravatar I was thinking the same thing, doesn't Palin's kid have DOWN'S? Completely different from Autism... And she's gone more then she's home, so how can she KNOW? Which, as a woman, I don't attack her for having a career, but don't use your home life as a reason for me to vote for you if you choose that!

McCain kept making these faces and totally blew away any and all respect I ever had for the man. He's dropped all his moral beliefs and is on the Rove Machine, or one just like it!

And since when is a republican complaining about how another candidate raised money? What?

He now has hypocrite stamped all over his face.

Gravatar What truly bothered me was when McCain said the Palin knows more about autism than "just about anyone". Excuse me? Among her strangely-named children, did I miss one that's on the spectrum? And how does she know more about autism than the families that are dealing with it on a daily basis, and all the doctors and teachers who work with these children? I don't think she knows any more about autism than I know about Down's Syndrome. Does McCain think they're the same thing? Because it sure sounded like it. Apparently if you've dealt with one developmental disability, you've dealt with them all.

Oh, and BTW, I reduced my workload years ago so I can be there for my kids who need a little extra help. You don't see me criss-crossing the country to further my own career at the expense of my kids.

See why I love this gal?

Gravatar ITA. I can't stand McCain now, and I never used to feel that way. As soon as he chose Palin it was all downhill from there. He's lost every bit of honor he once had. I've already voted absentee for Obama!

Yay! Good for you. This country will be so screwed if McCain wins.

Gravatar Right there with ya, Vince! I can't wait for them both to GO AWAY!!!

Me too. Is it over yet?

Gravatar You know, one of my favorite things about reading your blog is when The Wife comes into the comments and says something with just as much passion as your original post. YOU GO GIRL! I agree with you both completely and I'm glad I wasn't the only person who was angered by that ridiculous comment (that he kept repeating over and over like a skipped record!).

I'm glad we weren't the only ones that caught it.

Gravatar Oops, well I guess we can agree to disagree on this topic

I'm a MAC supporter all the way. I just don't trust his opponent, no matter what he proposes.

Sowwy.

xoxo

I can be politely disagreeable. However, how can you trust a candidate willing to give up on his principles just to be president? He called Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson "Agents of Intolerance" in the 2000 primaries then cozied up to Jerry Fallwell during Bush's term. He aligned himself with Bush even though he used to disagree with him on many issues. All to be president. And you wonder why many die-hard Republicans didn't find him genuine?

Gravatar I was rather confused by McCain's use of autism in reference to Palin. Although Down's children can also be autistic, there isn't any way of knowing if Trig is autistic or not.

Although I made a promise at Brighton's not to condemn nor condone Gov. Palin for what she chooses to do as a parent, because I don't like anyone telling me what to do, so far the only thing she knows is what its like to give birth to a special needs child, but doesn't know jack-shit about what its like to really raise one.

We can check in with her in 10 years and see how that's going.

I agree. Right now she has ZERO experience with a special needs child.

Gravatar Dude, I didn't even watch. I am SO SCARED. Seriously. I have heard people tell me they know people who are voting for McCain...get this...ready???...because their PARENTS ARE.

And I have a friend whose Dad has been democrat all his life but won't vote for Obama just because of the colour of his skin. It terrifies me that these idiots are voting?? I CANNOT vote, because I am just a "resident alien" and not a citizen. And you couldn't pay me to become a citizen (no offense) of this friggin' country. The first bloody debate I watched, I was yelling at the TV so much, it scared the kids. McCain is...never mind. We won't even go there.

I WANNA GO HOME!!! *sniff*

It's sad when people vote for silly reasons like that. I also heard there may be closet racism that may affect the outcome. We shall see.

BTW, good thing you didn't watch it. McCain said of health care, something to the effect, "What, you want this to be Canada or something?" Nice guy, huh?

Gravatar Ok, so I got riled up. I got Cryptic in here to read all this. Then he showed me this ~

http://www.leasticoulddo.com/

Go down to "Not so great Debates". Be curious to know what you think. I think the guys writes well.

Also, yeah. How does having a son with Downs mean that she knows anything about any type of Autism?? What does this Palin woman even know about Down's? How old is this baby of her's who has it?? Like you said, he is too young to know if he is on the autism spectrum.

Has she ever even met him?? Like, honestly. Who raises him with all that she has going on?? And why name him after a branch of math that deals with triangles?? Seriously, what did the poor boy ever do to her??

And yes, I love it when the wife speaks up too! I need to e-mail you guys soon. Been reading the out of sync child and it is looking like Cryptic has even more tendencies than Clown does! Just different ones.

Carry on...

Funny, I was just thinking on the drive this morning that someone like me would have a hard time running for office because I have no skeletons in my closet and I'm too honest. Isn't that sad?

Gravatar Indeed it is sad...I pray a person like you get elected sometime SOON. Doubtful though.

And yeah. McCain is a great guy. *snort*

You know, I don't know much about this stuff and want to educate myself and pay attention since my kids are growing up here. And I DO live in the country, whether I want to or not. So I went into things with an open mind. But the more I see of McCain...the more sick to my stomach I get. I have honestly been near tears a few times. I have some friends who say that if McCain wins, they are moving to Canada.

If only it were that simple. And if you talk to my family...they say it isn't much better up there!

Alright, I better get to bed.

Gravatar No matter which one wins... I think the next four years are going to be one big C.F.!

I'm going to go hide in a hole until it's all done!

Unless you're in a swing state, then I don't think there's anywhere to hide.

Gravatar I was thinking the SAME thing. Well, except I don't have the challenges that you and Mrs. Rocker Guy face wrt my children.

But how dare he-- or SHE for that matter-- put out there that somehow she knows better than most anyone else the struggle that families with special needs children face (autism as well as others). Bullshit.

She doesn't have to worry about child care. She doesn't have to worry about paying for therapy. She doesn't have to worry about the cost of medical care. She doesn't have to worry about who is going to take care of her child if something terrible happens to her. BULLSHIT. She will never, ever know the challenges normal, everyday people face with their special needs children.

What's even more laughable is that McCain plans to pay for his health rebate tax thing by, get this, cutting medicaid and medicare. The two things that struggling families often depend on to care for these children- who will eventually turn into adults.

My sister manages a group home for special needs adults that rage from profoundly retarded to Downs Syndrome. The higher function adults in this group home came because their primary care givers either became too ill or poor to care for them or because the caregivers died. What about them, McCain? What's going to happen to them when you cut funding for Medicaid? BULLSHIT.

And, one more thing while I'm on a flippin' role, how can you agree to disagree on this issue? Sarah Palin is in no place where she can understand the struggles of everyday people- much less the families of special needs children/adults. To say that she knows "better than most" was condescending and offensive even to me. How can you agree to disagree with that? No matter which way your vote is cast, making light of this subject in such a way was beyond the pale.

Rant on, my friend, rant on. You said that as well as I could.

Gravatar Damn boi! You fired up the posse! Great post! I love the comments too.

Indeed I did. Not intentionally, but its nice to know I still got it in me.

Gravatar Sarah Palin has a nephew with autism (Her sister's 13 year old son). Which I agree is not being the same thing as a mother of an autistic child, but to say that she has no experience with the disorder is incorrect, even if saying she knows a lot oabout it may be a stretch. Whether or not she can be a true advocate to those of us with special needs children remains to be seen.

Long time no see!

I did not know about the autistic nephew. However, that does not change my opinion that McCain was talking out of his ass. I would not trust his administration for a second to really do anything to help out families with special needs children.

Unless they were rich, that is.

Gravatar I am convinced that McCain selected Palin as his running mate because he knows he can't win, but now he has someone to blame when he doesn't. She scares me. I never really thought much of his politics, but a true politician he is. And so is Obama. This is a tough one. History will judge surely us no matter how it shakes out!

I'm beginning to think politician is a dirty word. But after 8 years of Republicans, I'm ready for the other guys to give it a shot.
