Good news! This past week, 3,800 soldiers arrived home in Alaska from Baghdad. After a 15 month deployment, the 172nd Stryker Brigade made it home to wildly cheering home-town crowds, and grateful and loving families. We are all so proud of these guys! There were some ceremonies for the guys who did not make it home with them, and some tears... because Alaska has the largest concentration of Veterans of any state in the Union, and NOBODY respects the lost like the Veterans do.
I love news like this, and I wish the News would report, sometimes, AFTER the fact to protect OPSEC, how many make it home alive. Like this:
"Last week, 3,800 soldiers came home to their families, and 35 didn't".
Maybe that makes me naive and air-headed, but I don't think so.
