minimum fund purchase is typically $1000 in a retirement account. of course, it probably depends on the brokerage too. so your mileage might vary.

If you are investing a little bit every month, mutual funds are the best bet. However, I prefer ETFs, Exchange Traded Funds, EEM, EFA, IWO, EFV, SSO, MVV, VOX. The only stock I have is NBL which I bought soon after hearing that Chuck Davidson, a highly-respected former collegue was the CEO.
The last few years have been good for stocks--but the tide eventually turns and bear markets can be hazardous for your wealth.
