If procrastination has a nice ass and nice muscles, not to mention a fantastic chest and a six pack tummy, count me in!
However, I know what it's like to lose everything. It was only last October that my PC bit the dust in terms of infections and viruses - having to reformat broke my heart. I lost precious photos of my babies and God only knows what other memories.
While it wasn't on the same scale as you losing so much important work, I hated it just the same. It also taught me to make sure I have system restore turned on this time around too!
Further and further proof that we should all be using portable hard drives (all my stuff is on mine). I bet Dawn would have loved one when she had to re-format. For me it's been a kind of ongoing thing, archiving everything. Mind you, I'm getting to the point of one for editing, one for sound, one for eBooks, et al.

Gawd, we have an external backup drive and it's been a while since I've backed *everything* up on it. Thanks for the kick in the ass.
Unfortunately Procrastination has been a 'lover' of mine for many many years... just lacks in producing a 'big O'..
I never thought procrastination was that good of a looker...I guess I'll have to give him another try!!

Ugh that sucks! I had that happen once before but thankfully I had backed up my photos on snapfish. However some of my writings...*poof*! Gone forever. :-(

I bought an external hard drive months ago to back things up and I have yet to do it. Thanks for the push. Even though I'm bummed you lost that stuff.
I am SO SORRY. ARG!!! That sucks SO bad, and has happened to me over the years (with different machines) more than once. I bought an external last year and LOVE it... though I've been telling myself to backup again since it's been about 3 months, I didn't until I read your post. Thanks for the ass kick!

Uh, if you blew the motherboard then there is a 99% chance everything you need is still on the hard drive. Just swap the hard drive out on another PC and boot it up. Oh it will throw all kinds of error due to hardware and driver mismatches but it should come up in safe mode OK then you can you can get all the good shit off and put the drives back where you found them.
It's a pain but no biggie.
