Comments for Battle of Ontario....

Tomorrow there will be only two teams with fewer than 4 wins.

There will also be only two teams with fewer than 5 wins.

It's not just a coincidence, folks!

Kessel with a pair of goals, giving him one more than Spezza.

From the other thread:

I'm sure somebody will show up with a formula that proves the Leafs got more points out of their games against Tampa than Ottawa did.

Spezza 3. Kessel 0.

That looks like Duff lying in the back right corner, btw.

(I keed, I keed)

...and you accuse me of seeing things that aren't there.

THM sees everything...

...and you accuse me of seeing things that aren't there

Wha?

I want Toronto to do their regular thing and finish 10th. As much as I dislike the Laffs, them trading away their picks to Boston means I want them to get a crappy pick without making the playoffs. If Montreal, Boston and Toronto can all split their points, its makes it easier for my Sens to make the playoffs (in theory).

jeez, if you're gonna call the Leafs the "Laffs" at least spell it correctly.
Laughs.

You'll still sound ridiculous though.

Gravatar JaredofLondon - I believe people spell it Laffs as it is much closer to Leafs. How about Leaf fans learn how to spell the pluralization of Leaf. On top of being the worst team, they are also the most grammatically incorrect team.

PS. It's actually a pet peeve of mine when people feel the need to rip on teams by calling them dumb names like Laffs or Snottawa. I do remember making these types of insults when I was a young child, people should keep it that way.

Gravatar Amen Cameron. Amen.

Wait, does this mean I have to give up "Afraidsson"?

Fuck that.

Gravatar Every time you write that it makes steam come out my ears. Quite the site actually.

Gravatar I want Toronto to do their regular thing and finish 10th.

You know what Tif, at this point I think that would quite a success considering how far back Toronto are and what they would need to do to finish any higher than 10th. It's a freakishly big mountain to climb.

Finishing 10th, as crappy as that would be for the Leafs, would give Boston a lesser 1st round pick, which bodes well for the rest of the teams in our division, not just Toronto.

I heard that Chiarelli was asked about his thoughts on Toronto's current place in the standings and what that means as far as the Kessel trade. His response, and this is 2nd hand, was something to the effect of: "I'm more worried right now that it's Boston who will earn a high draft pick".

Which does raise some alarm. Imagine if the Leafs can't elbow their way out of the bottom three and Boston continue to plummet? We're talking two picks in the top 3-5 for Boston. That would be bad news indeed.

Gravatar So let me get this straight,

I should be rooting for the LEifS(sp) to do well so as to prevent the Bruins from snagging a high pick and thus hurting all of us in the division?

Right,by that logic the best thing to happen to the Sens would be for the lEEfs(sp)to win the Cup!

FUCK...those basement gasses are getting worse!!!!

Gravatar Jason York has started hitting the sauce early today, comparing Spezza to Yzerman.

This delusion has seized the morning sports show as well. I'm a fan of the Senators and all but...shouldn't Jason win something, anything at all, at any point in his life before we anoint him the next coming of a Hall of Famer?

Gravatar Dear Steve ,

At some point in your life you will realize that most so-called experts have no fucking clue what they are talking about.
I use this blog as exhibit "A".

Gravatar Fair enough Duff.

I'm a casual reader of the blog...in your opinion, does Wilson lose his job if the Leafs finish in the bottom 5; does Murray lose his if the Senators miss the playoffs?

Best to both teams on the weekend.

Gravatar Duff - if that was directed towards me I was referring to the fact that a leaf pluralized is leaves. Congrats on failing grade 3!

Gravatar I was ragging Muppet and Jared. They are leaf fans(I used lower case on purpose too).

Since you mentioned it,

I found grade 3 very frustrating and confusing because I had an clueless teacher that sounded alot like you.

Gravatar LOL at Duff. Did you ever get the impression that about 90% of what you say goes right over people's heads?

Gravatar The only thing from Duff's comments that might go over peoples heads are the outdated cultural references.

Luckily for Duff, some of us are almost as old as him so we catch the odd one...

Gravatar I blame 40 years of Sesame Street!

We're all experts. Didn't you know?

Gravatar Cameron:

cf. http://www.merriam-webster.com/d...ictionary/ leafs

Inflected Form(s): plural leaves ˈlēvz also leafs ˈlēfs

also as used by this Duff fellow: Etymology: Middle English leef

Gravatar DON'T FUCK WITH DUFF!!!!1™

Gravatar Webster - When I read a bit more there, I realized that leafs is a verb, as in to leaf. Maybe be they are named for "the fan leafs through the papers to find the last time the Leafs made the playoffs". Sorry, a leaf, from a tree is leaves plural.

Gravatar Sorry Duff, guess I don't get your spelling reference.

Gravatar v:to leif

Gravatar Carolina 6, Toronto 3

Kessel with the Hatty!! Leaf Nation erupts with joy!

Gravatar Main Entry: 1) leaf
Pronunciation: ˈlēf
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural leaves ˈlēvz also leafs ˈlēfs

You read too far Cameron.

It's an acceptable, though rarely used, plural of leaf. as confirmed by our company's tech. manuals manager; an M.A. in English lit.

Gravatar Well, Toronto, against the spirit set out by the Leafs, Raptors, Argos, UofT & York football teams and TFC won something today!

Ok, so they beat out stiff competition from Lima & Bogotoa. But that's to be celebrated ya?!

Carolina 5, Leafs 4 (OT). Another gifty point for the Leafs

I like Don's prediction

Gravatar 2-0 so far. Leaf fans call for Toskala!

Gravatar Hey, any one here going to the Bingo-Hamilton game on Sunday? My tickets actually got stolen out of my car but the Capital Tickets folks are helping me out.

I'm picturing someone looking at the tickets a 2nd time and saying "Binghamton Senators? WTF!"

Gravatar Are they scannable tickets, Don? Can you imagine the guys showing up and trying to get in to be told "you're under arest"?

Gravatar Yeah - they're scannable - aren't they all.

Gravatar Gusto for the Calder! Fuckin' Ward.

Gravatar Wah-hey! It's a win! 29th place! Congrats, Leaf fans.

Gravatar Ha! now the Bruins are stuck drafting Cam Fowler!

Gravatar Jason York has started hitting the sauce early today, comparing Spezza to Yzerman.

I did the same a few days ago on this very blog. A comparison does NOT imply that you think two things are equal. Only that they have notable similarities.

I think that Spezza now is like Yzerman was at this point in his career too, when he was forced to make the transition from offensive powerhouse to responsible 2-way player.

I think comparisons of Spezza to Rick Nash and Eric Staal are appropriate in this context too.

Gravatar Fuckin' Ward.

The Two Time Defending Champion FYM's share this opinion.

Gravatar Gustavsson won that game.

I'll take it.

Bring on Detroit!

Gravatar I did the same a few days ago on this very blog. A comparison does NOT imply that you think two things are equal. Only that they have notable similarities.

I heard that they wear the same shoe size.

Gravatar Interesting. Vancouver is just one of about 7 teams with as many or more straight up losses as the Leafs.

In two or three weeks, if the Leafs keep playing like this, that nasty start won't even be noticable in the standings.

Toronto have earned 8 of a possible 12 points in their last 6 games. That's not bad huh?

Gravatar It also goes to show how much that overtime loss point manipulates the standings in a bad way

Gravatar Last year I would have to agree, but this year, I'd say its manipulating the standings in a good way.
Not that I am biased or anything.

Gravatar Haha no, not at all!

Gravatar Wow. What a difference a week or two makes huh?

Leafs penalty kill has been perfect for the last three games. Ottawa's, whose was one of the best in the NHL allows three in a row tonight.

I guess we shouldn't judge things based on small samples huh?

Anyway, Leafs were absolutely dominant tonight. Helped that Osgoode didn't make any timely saves at all. He was pretty crappy. Had the Leafs been playing Brodeur that might have been a lot closer. So no need to start running through the streets with tinfoil cups over the game, but have to LOVE Gustavsson.

Komisarek hurt though, hope it's not serious.

Gravatar I'm off in the morning to Des Moines Iowa for a week, finishing off in Chicago at to see the Leafs play next Friday night!

I'll try and check in.

Gravatar where are your seats Muppet?
I'll be there too (chicago that is)

Gravatar I'll know exactly in a few days. Will let you know!
