I haven't checked the cap status for Calgary, but I assume they can't easily keep all that salary at the back end without seriously compromising their offence.
So, I like Heatley for Phaneuf straight up, then we make a run at Cammaleri as a free agent. More realistically, I think Tanguay could be a good pickup, especially if he's cheap.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone I'd want from the Rangers, except Lundqvist. Please not Drury.

Anshu, Calgary has made some tremendous moves and because of that, J-Bo fits under their cap with ease.
Cammalleri is the only one that will be missing of consequence from last years team. It was the Flames choice to let him go and they knew this a long time ago. Cammalleri is no loss to the Flames in their mind.
Calgary has some awesome contracts up front. Conroy, Moss, Glencross, Bourque, Primeau, Prust and Nystrom all make under $1.5 million. That makes this workable. Boyd will be signed to a reasaonable deal as well. Jokinen is gone after this upcoming season, but he makes up for the loss of Cammalleri this season.
Remember that Calgary rid themselves of 2 terrible contracts in Aucoin and Vandermeer = savings of 6.3 mill.
They don't have to lose anyone. Scary.

TSN has Heatley to EDM for Penner, Cogliano and Smid, just waiting on Heatley's approval.
Because you know, when you demand a trade out of town you definitely deserve to make sure it's someplace you want to go right?

Smid is OK and Penner should do better in Ottawa (he needs a change of scenery) but Cogliano is the key to the deal. IF he develops into a first line player the deal will work out for the Senators. So far he hasn't looked like anything more than a 20 goal, 50 point guy but he is still young.

Can he not waive it? That would be near career suicide? Edmonton fans would boo him more than Pronger!

Unfuckingbelievable!
Melnyk you stupid ass. This has your hands all over this. Why couldn't you just let Murray get a package that is close to fair? Can you not see the bigger picture?
Unfuckingreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sens fans, this is the return we got.
A lazy, fat Penner with a work ethic to remain just that. Add in his $4.5 million per year until 2025. I just stuck a fork in my eye.
Smid is an RFA that probably won't sign with us.
Cogliano, well...I like you. You better sign with us after next season when you yourself become an RFA as well.
Fuck my life!!!

Heatley's career needs to end now.
Send that fuck back to Germany in exchange for Bruno.

That was me.
So TSN says the bonus carries to the new team up to midnight tomorrow. So if this was the case of Heatley fucking the Sens for $4M because he lost 2 minutes of ice time for *team purposes*, the team should fuck him back by keeping him for the next 5 years. At this point, I couldn't give a shit if all the Sens can afford is 21 shit players at $1M plus his contract if it means he is barred from playing hockey again.

Well I need to know who I'm going to play with, so I said no until I make sure Edmonton will have me in the right role with a guy like Hemsky or Spezza.
Talk is Edmonton has other deals on the go, and I need to know that I'm the first line go to guy. But I also need a guy to help, because, y'know, scoring goals by yourself is a bitch.

Wonder how much Penner, Cogliano and Edmonton front office like me now that I've announced how disposable they are?
Team Canada's camp is gonna be fun!

I like how Murray is handling this situation. He's deflected everything on to Heatley. And by going public with this deal before Heatley agreed to it, he's done two things.
1. He's made it known to everyone (fans, media, GMs, etc.) what the baseline offer for Heatley must be.
2. He's shifted all the focus to Heatley and his agent, as they are now the obstacles to making this (or any) deal happen.
As for the Edmonton deal itself, I like it. As I said yesterday, "thrown in a young forward", and Cogliano certainly fits the bill. Three legitimate roster players, two top-6 forwards plus a D-man that can play in a 4-5 role. And Cogliano has significant potential upside. All consuming less cap space than Heatley (at least for now).
Sportsnet mentioned a collection of no-names from the Rangers, and that they are going to "sweeten the deal". Doesn't excite me at all, but then maybe they're all diamonds in the rough.

Anshu, I've said it many times that our GM BM is the only guy I would want handling this selfish trade request by Heatley. Murray is doing a bang up job so far. Playing and pulling all the right cards to date.
But, he can't have any interference from Melnyk.
That trade offer last night and the widespread madness that ensued was surreal. I just hope Melnyk doesn't care that much about getting rid of Heatley for the sake of saving what would amount to probably $20 in my world.
The bigger picture is making our team stronger now, but ultimately the future. Melnyk's $4 mil will be replaced 10-fold with strong playoff runs for another 11 years. Getting a package like the one that Heatley kiboshed (although it's growing on me) is still not enough.
Zherdev and Rozsival...no thanks.
Callahan, Dubinsky and Grachov. Yes please.
Just about to hit send and learned Vancouver resigned the Sedin's for 5 years, $6.1 mil per. Damn was hoping they would go to Toronto. HAHHAHAHA. Oh well, there is always Bertuzzi.

Nice to see the only public Canada Day event in Toronto, ON is not just about half the size of the one in London, England this year.
Nice work boys. Took Burke, Wilson and the rest of his Team USA crew about 8 months to annex your city. Way to resist.

Right smack in the middle of Heatley fist-fucking your team, city, and GM in the ass, you still take the time to make an "anonymous" slag on Toronto?
How exceptionally insecure of you.
For once I agree with BeRed. I'm glad the Sedins signed in Vancouver. I was worried they would come here although wasn't all that opposed to their combined 160 points. They would make great Sens - talented but heartless.

Actually, I was proudly applauding the crew in the UK, and elsewhere in Canada.
By contrasting them with the jokers running (ruining?) your city.

I guess when you have no life, some boiled hot dogs and paper Canada flags are a big deal.
I'm sitting at a cottage in the Muskoka's. Yes, I wish it was hotter out, but chilling with a beer waiting for some trades, lake outside my door, good friends surrounding me... I think I speak for most of us up here in that I wouldn't trade this for a stupid Canada day celebration put on by any city.
Now, lets have some trades before I get too drunk and fall in the lake.

You're at a cottage surrounded by 'good friends' and you're typing away on a laptop? AND there's a lake around?
Sheesh.
The only reason I'm anywhere near a screen is because I have to be. Timezones and all, y'know?

My house just got buzzed 6 times by CF-18s, the snowbirds and some WW2 bomber assist jet. I was sure Danny Heatley was about to carpet bomb the city just for shits n' giggles.
