I didn't say Toronto was playing today. I said "Toronto heads to Carolina" which means they're going there today.

Looks as though it says "both BoO teams in action today"
Just razzin anyway. Trying to get the Muppets back. He took a pounding yesterday

And where it says "Carolina will have something to say about that tonight", their local edia will be asking the team questions about it or Maurice will be talking about it to his team.

Travelling from one place to another is an action. Je vais, tu va, il/elle vas, etc.

Anyway, I'm leaving it up. It's a gift to Muppet. Like TB gave to Toronto.

Ha ha.
What an awesome turn of events!
(clearing of throat)
OK, so THM, do I NEED to take you through step by step on how to read a schedule?
Try here:

See, that took less than 20 seconds!!

I won't take it any further than that. At least you have the gonads to leave it up THM! Big props for that!
Some Sen fans around here would just change their name. You know who you are.

Oh, well never mind!
A Game Day thread that talks about a team in action today can of course mean a team is flying on a plane and checking into a hotel room.
What was I thinking?

Also, Spezza is now playing tonight, so Ottawa's "stud C gamer" is in.
Unless you were referring to Jesse Winchester, who is sitting.

The girls at Hooley's seemed to think Winchester was quite the stud last April, so that works.
The Team had reported Spezza was 'doubtful'. Good sign he's in then.

The OT and SO points seem to be an issue for you huh? The Sens got 11 OT/SO points last season. Toronto had 13.
Here's from basement up, had those single points not been awarded.
1. Tampa Bay 48pts
2. Long Island 52pts
3. Colorado 64pts
4. Toronto 68pts
5. LA 68pts
6. Atlanta 70pts
7. PHX 72
8. Dal 72
9. Ottawa 72
Toronto and LA had the same wins, as did Ottawa, Dallas and Phoenix. How would we decide from here? Goal differential? Head to Head? Anybody know? Can't be goal differential since Florida was +3 and Montreal +2 and it was the Habs who got 8th playoff spot. Goals scored? If it was indeed goals scored, Ottawa would have finished behind Dallas and drafted a spot higher. Toronto would have drafted 5th overall.
It definitely would have changed the landscape as both the Leafs and Sens would have drafted higher. It certainly wouldn't have helped either team otherwise.

Aside from the draft, who cares where you end up outside of the post-season partygoers?
How would we decide from here? Goal differential? Head to Head? Anybody know?
I'd imagine it would go by divisional rankings at that point.

Ok, I found on proicehockey.com that ties in the standings are broken first by head to head games and then goal differential.
Most of you probably already knew this. I imagine Florida and Montreal fans do.
So, while those OT losses do get points, the winning team gets additional point AND a head-to-head win if it comes down to the wire in the standings.
I think that's more than fair.

Aside from the draft, who cares where you end up outside of the post-season partygoers?
I think the draft position is the only reason to care. The reason I chose to look at the bottom teams is because that's where Ottawa and Toronto finished.

I think that's more than fair.
For me its not a question of fairness.
I'd like to see the 3 points for every game system for two reasons.
1. I like the logical consistency.
2. You can use the point allocation system to provide an incentive for more exciting hockey. Make it 3 points for a win in regulation or OT, 2 points for a win in the SO. That means playing for the win becomes more important rather than playing for the tie to guarantee yourself at least a point.
It also slightly devalues the shootout, which I think makes sense too. If you win the game playing regular hockey, you get all the points. If you win in the post-game sideshow, you get fewer points.

In 98/99, the last season of straight up tie games, there were 162 of them.
In 08/09, there was 282 OT losses recorded, which I think means 564 games went into overtime.
If so, this means that 3 times more games go into overtime now than they did before the guaranteed overtime point was created. Which means teams are probably playing for a tie more often knowing they get the additional point.
Anshu, I think if we wanted to stop that trend offering up 3 points for a regulation win might be the way to go. You would have far more exciting 3rd periods, one would think? Especially once we got down to the end of the season when 12th place teams would be chasing 3 point wins to try and sneak into the playoffs.
It would certainly reward teams who get it done in 3 periods.

I think a sports writer did a test of a 3 point system not too long ago. I'll try and find it. If memory serves correct, the standings were barely affected. Then again, that might have been pre-salary cap...

Brian Burke called the 3 point system ridiculous and 29 other GM's also voted it down.
Not sure why? Maybe we're missing something that they are seeing?
Anyway, we're stuck with the system we have and OT/SO losses will continue to be points.

Not sure why? Maybe we're missing something that they are seeing?
Or maybe they just aren't seeing what we are seeing. Or maybe they don't want to admit a mistake. Or maybe they just don't/didn't want to change the system yet again.
Regardless, the current system is just plain stupid. I don't care how hard anyone tries, you just can't convince me that some games being worth 3 points while others are worth just 2 makes any sense.

I don't want to sound like a dick, but check your math again.
One OTL means one team loses the game in overtime. Yes, another team wins the game, but that's still the same game. Therefore, 282 OT losses means 282 games went into overtime.
That means its slightly less than twice as many games going into overtime as there were in 98/99, not three times. Problem, though - the 98/99 season featured 27 teams, not the current 30, so that skews things as well.

Spezza is just amazing. I just can't get over how much better he's playing now than I've ever seen him play. Maybe he's not on pace to get as many points as in his peak years, but his contribution to the team has been just massive this year.
I'm so glad he's back. We're gonna need him for the next stretch against some tough opponents.

Yeah, only getting to listen to the game on the Team, but I just don't hear as much of "Spezza loses the puck" - as a matter of fact, he's coming out of battles in the corners with the puck!? That's not something Spezza would have done last year.
1G 2A with his first goal the game winner in OT... I guess his back's feeling better.

Doubtful to do what, Muppet?
Score a goal? check. Show leadership? check. Someone's probably eating their words right now.
At least Spezza isn't doubtful to double check his info before he starts harping about some ridiculous phantom stat.

I agree. It's obvious that he likes playing for Clouston. I think the best thing Clouston has done is give Spezza time on the PK.
I'm not too worried about Spezza getting his points. He's more or less on a PPG pace now and the PP is beginning to click.

The Muppet keeps talking about Spezza's contract. Think if he was on waivers tomorrow about 29 teams would be clearing room for him in a matter of minutes? It's hard to find anyone on the Laffs roster of that stature. Oh, wait...Jeff Finger?
I think the Laffs are just taking it easy these days because they want all the Olympians on their roster to be well rested for February. I hope they didn't get too exhausted beating Carolina!
