Comments for Battle of Ontario....

Gravatar I thought I would never ever in my life time say this... but yes... GO LEAFS GO..... I now feel like I need to throw up

Gravatar Pav, don't go that far!

Gravatar JOIN THE DARK SIDE!

http://www.sabresreport.com/blog.../? p=448#respond

Look at those magic numbers. Two Leaf victories could help the sens catch the Sabres.

Gravatar Two Leaf victories could help the sens catch the Sabres.

Sorry but no math for me just yet. Was up to 3 am and just starting my first coffee. Does this mean that there is a very slim chance of a first round BoO?

Seeing as Boston's game plan lately resembles a lemming migration....Go Leafs Go!

Gravatar Yeah, hence why I am cheering for the L..L..Le..LEAFS. God. My breakfast almost came up

Gravatar Thanks to Pav & sym I just stabbed myself with a fork I had used to clean the sludge out of my bathtub. Never, never, EVER, never say G- L*** G-. Not even when you may think it helps us. You must keep it in your brain (not that those words ever cross an a functional brain) and avoid voicing it at all costs. I have to shower with acetone and a lighter 5 times just because of how dirty you have made me feel with the association.

Gravatar Sorry THM, but it could be worse....we could have used the word Habs.

Gravatar further to my defence...you read the bit where I said I was up 'till 3am and hadn't even had my first coffee yet.

I cannot be held responsible for any craziness when I'm suffering from sleep and caffeine deprivation.

Gravatar unless faced with death, and only a slow and painful one involving having to put on a leafs jersey to really make you suffer, you have no valid reason for doing what you've done, sym. I am ashamed.

Gravatar I am so sorry. I was lacking judegement - it won't happen again

Gravatar Wow. If I was man I'd be feeling pretty emasculated right about now....

You're not going to make me trade in my "serious hockey fan" card for a "puckbunny" card are you??? Nooooooo!

Gravatar LOL @ THM
any perdictions on tonight?

Gravatar Toronto 20 Buffalo 0

I just have a feeling...

Gravatar I hope for a good game since I will be at a bar!

Gravatar Wow, that is the last thing I expected to find when I came here this morning (afternoon whatever, I work midnights). Sens fans showing some support for the good guys.

Gravatar Toronto 20 Buffalo 0

That will be the SOG total for the game and yet the leafs will still lose when a puck shot by Sundin goes off of Darcy Tucker's head and ricochets all the way down the ice and between Raycroft's legs while he runs his fingers through his flowing locks thereby giving Tucker an own-goal. That's just the way things have been going for the leafs of late.

Gravatar Wow, that is the last thing I expected to find when I came here this morning (afternoon whatever, I work midnights). Sens fans showing some support for the good guys.

Yeah well some of us were still drunk this morning.. byt THM set us straight.

Gravatar You're not going to make me trade in my "serious hockey fan" card for a "puckbunny" card are you??? Nooooooo!

No, sym. Only one puck-bunny card per blog and Muppet holds that one at the moment

Gravatar ...between Raycroft's legs while he runs his fingers through his flowing locks...

Wow. That is man love if I've ever read it. I have to go crush beer cans on my forehead and shoot something with a rifle just to cleanse myself. Thanks a lot THM.
(insert smiley emoticon here)

Gravatar No group of fans could be worse than Philadelphia's.

Gravatar "No group of fans could be worse than Philadelphia's."

I dunno, maybe in the past, but more recently the buffaslugites have given them a run for their money.

Gravatar Philadelphia fans tried to start a fight with my 100lb girlfriend who was worried on the way to the game that people might yell at her for wearing a Leafs jersey.

Gravatar yeah, but didn't some leaf fans try to attack an old man who was a sens fan in the parking lot? You get assholes in any rink...i don't know why people insist on tarring an entire fan base with the same brush.

Gravatar Ya, exactly symbiont1. Not all sens fans are like THM:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=-g0gCEshoNs

Sheesh!!

(BTW, last time I brought this video out it was Gee. You're up next Don.)

Gravatar Speaking of which, did anybody see those new commercials the Ontario government put out to promote tourism? There's this one scene with a Leafs fan and a Senators fan in a train station or something.

Gravatar Noppers. Haven't seem them. Just drove down Bank street past the Local Heros - there were 10 - 12 leaf fans getting off the bus - I had this sudden urge to run them over.

Gravatar They've been let out on a day-pass, I guess.

Gravatar I haven't seen those commercials either. When and what channels are they aired on? Lately my TV viewing has been hockey or DVDs that I have.

Gravatar Too bad Sens fans didn't have to do so much travelling just to attend their own home games, or maybe they too could hit the road with their team.

Game's about to start. Time to crack a beer.
Go Leafers!

Final score 5-1 Toronto. Three PP goals.

Gravatar Anyone else see the dork behind the Buffalo bench in the Jason mask?

Gravatar No, but I see a goal beside "BUF" on the nhl.com website.

Gravatar I dunno Muppet. Miller looks pretty hot so far tonight. It might be tough to get 5 past him.

Gravatar Well, he admitted most will need to be on the PP. Best put Tucker on, close the hatches and starting yelling "Aaa-wwwoooooo-gaaa, Aaa-wwwoooooo-gaaa"

Gravatar No, but I see a goal beside "BUF" on the nhl.com website.

Ba-ZING!

Go Slugs Go! Go Slugs Go!!!!!

And Jeanerette goes Ca-Razy!

Gravatar this one has the potential to get a little crazy.

Gravatar Toronto outshot Buffalo 21-9 in the frame. Miller is playing well, but as Heatley said from ice level, Toronto outplayed Buffalo in every other category. The Leafs are punishing them physically.

Kaberle set up the Mcabe one-timer for the tying goal, a PPG. Welcome back Kabby.

Gravatar Really enjoying watching Briere as well. He'll make a great TML next year.

Gravatar Where would the leafs be without 5 on 3s.....

Gravatar Jared I saw the guy behind the bench. It ca't be easy to follow the puck through those sweaty eye holes. What a mo mo.

Gravatar You watching the game DC?

Gravatar but as Heatley said from ice level, Toronto outplayed Buffalo in every other category.

Dany's doing colour now?

Gravatar but as Heatley said from ice level

*cough* not to nit pick....but isn't that Healy?

didn't see that guy with the mask yet...but will keep my eyes peeled. Toronto is outplaying them in every category. If it wasn't for Miller...

Gravatar Shhesh, a guy makes one spelling mistake and y'all pounce!
To give HEALY credit, did follow up his staement with exactly what you said Symbiont. Miller has been insane good.

Wellwood will pot one in the first 2 minutes of the 1st. We're still on the PP.

Gravatar Yes Muppet I'm watching the game.....

Gravatar If the Leafs can keep up that forcheck, Buffalo will crumble under it, they arn't big enough to take it all game...Big If though...

Gravatar 1st?

Gravatar Wow, finnally Stajin pots one, slick moves by Steen.

Gravatar All us Leaf fans (and DC) watching, are hanging on by our fingernails here. A 4-1 lead falls apart. Now 4-3. HANG ON BOYS!

Gravatar Leave some air for the rest of us.....

Gravatar AAARG!
Sundin misses the net on a 2 on 1.
This is an intense game man. Gotta keep Buffalo out from behind our net.

OH SHIT.

Tied 4-4.

Gravatar That's gotta hurt.....

Gravatar Oh man! I think Maurice dressed the wrong team tonight. They look like the bruins! 5-4 now for the Sabres.

Gravatar No, the go ahead 5-4 goal hurt.
really bad.

Fucking Stafford.

Gravatar you have got to be fucking kidding me...

Gravatar I suppose we won't be hearing much more about the Sens blowing 3 goal leads in the third.....

Gravatar sheesh! they are falling apart! Raycroft has made three big time saves because they keep giving up ridiculous opportunities!

Gravatar Can someone tell me why Kaberle was skating into the corner with the Buffalo player to leave Stafford alone to tip that pass from Vanek in?

Sure he's recovered from that concussion?

What a collapse!

Gravatar Boy those Slugs are fast!

Gravatar Fucking Stafford.

Damn AHLers.....

Gravatar Chokers!

Gravatar And nice to see Raycroft making the big save when the team needed it!

Gravatar Is Tucker playing tonight?

Gravatar well that was depressing

Gravatar Gaaaggggghhhhhhh.........

Gravatar Sundin couldn't get it up.

Gravatar Time to get out the TML cart flags again.

Gravatar Leafs Suck!!!!1

Gravatar What type of Leaf team do you think we'll see tomorrow?

Gravatar There you go DC. You now watched an entire Leafs game on a Friday night and you're not even a fan.
WHat next, watch old MASH re-runs, alone in your bachelor apt while you eat Tuna out of a can?

Well, time to throw on the new Rocky movie. My guess is that unlike the Leafs game, the underdog will win.

Gravatar There you go DC. You now watched an entire Leafs game on a Friday night and you're not even a fan.
WHat next, watch old MASH re-runs, alone in your bachelor apt while you eat Tuna out of a can?

Oh my lord! This is pretty much my life.... 'scuse me while I crank open a tin of tuna. Maybe pour a stiff drink.

Gravatar For myself, I turned the game on in the third and saw the Leafs go up 4-1. I turned the the TV off saying "The Leafs can hold that lead". I checked the score before turning off the computer and saw it was 4-3. I said to myself, "Self, I should the end of this game." At 5-4 I said to myself, "Self, you gotta get that 'puter fired back up and comment"

0.853 SV% for Raycroft in that game. Does that improve his numbers?

Gravatar whats wrong with tuna from a can?

A stiff drink, yes, a very good idea sym, very good indeed.

Gravatar Jared - time to follow the Tigers.

Gravatar I watched an entire 'Slugs game. I'm glad I got a dish at the cottage. I get to see a game pretty much every Friday night. Tomorrow morning I will enjoy a few cups of coffee while watching the "icebergs" float down the Ottawa River.

And I'll be watching again tomorrow night.....

Gravatar PPP is probably in the fetal position sucking on his thumb right about now...

Gravatar Tonight's game was obviously crucial to the leafs.I ask all you leaf fans out there.Where the hell was Tucker?

Sundin played hard but all that Tucker did was give Miller the "bums rush". Overated comes to mind!

Gravatar If I had 1st pick in a playoff pool,I would give Pommenville serious consideration .This guy is clutch!

Gravatar Fucking pathetic.

Gravatar Where the hell was Tucker?

tucker was on the ice for the last two goals.

It looked like Miller took a shot a tucker at the end of the game.

Gravatar They paid too much for him.

Gravatar Fucking pathetic.

Yeah it was pretty sad mate - but man what a game.

Gravatar ...proving once again that he is far from being the player that every gm would want on their team.

Gravatar Hey remember that oldie but goody?....the regular season doesn't mean anything!...

Gravatar And there's always "Don't tell me about heart and determination!!!!!1"

Gravatar Can you guys mention "grit" at some point?

Gravatar Beauty eh!...how about " I promise I won't come in ....no foget that one....how about ..." geting a player back from injury is like making a trade"

Gravatar The Sens ooze grit. Well except Redden.....and Gerber.....and Muckler.

Gravatar Can you guys mention "grit" at some point?

You're right Sym...."Grit 'ER Done"

Gravatar With all those Leaf fans coming home tonight from the game, you now know why the Border Guards wanted to be issued weapons.

Gravatar Or "We need Belak back in the lineup to replace [insert the name of any 3rd or 4th liner here]"

Gravatar Well, the Leafs weren't supposed to beat Buffalo, anyway. They just realized it, and fixed their mistake.

The team they were supposed to beat was the Caps.

Gravatar Don asked
What type of Leaf team do you think we'll see tomorrow?

One with Aubin in nets.

Gravatar With all the crowd shots of leaf fans tonight, all I saw were gangs of fat ugly guys.

I think they were guys even though most of them had boobs.....

Gravatar Is that what I heard smacking the glass?

Gravatar One with Aubin in nets.

to be fair, you can't blame Raycroft alone for this loss. They gave up so many odd man rushes and golden opportunities towards the end and Raycroft bailed them out big time on a lot of them. They could easily have gotten 7 or 8 goals.

Gravatar You're right but how will he handle an ugly (more ugly than normal)leaf crowd?

Gravatar That's enough of me piling on for one night. Need to save some for tomorrow.....

Gravatar True...there may be confidence issues. Leave it to me to defend a former Bruin! lol

Gravatar I would like to propose a toast.....To the little yellow bar !

Gravatar Leafs are officially out of the playoffs so no more discussion is needed on this poor excuse for a professional team. Please talk about only playoff teams from now on like The Mighty Sens. Thanks.

Gravatar Out of curiosity, who will you Leaf fans root for when they're finally and officially out? That's a serious question, who's everyone's second fav?

Gravatar All questions here are serious. It's the answers that run amok!

Gravatar I would guess the same ones as last year but who am I to say.

Gravatar The callers on AM640 don't sound that demoralized to me. Same old complaints...

Gravatar "Leafs are officially out of the playoffs "

Officially? Thats a pretty strong word there cheif, I think the only team officially out of playoff contention is the Flyers.

"who's everyone's second fav?"
Whoever knocks the Sens out in the first round, so most likely the Happy feet

Gravatar Nobody's officially done, but I just had to laugh as I saw the last 4 goals in that game. Ouch.

Gravatar Trackback:

And here is the link to the prototypical Sabre-hater Leaf fan blog. It's complete with all the hair raising creativity of an Alan Thicke one-liner. Good reading if you want to see the LeafBlowers whine worse than the Sabres. This will be a rare situation where the Leafs DO outwhine the Sabres.

Gravatar the irony.... not so long ago it seemed the fans of a team out of the playoffs was railing on about how pathetic it was that a team securely in a playoff spot was allowing 2-goal leads to slip away into losses against desperate teams. Where is DJ now?

Gravatar fuck this team. fuck fuck fuck.

fuck.

Gravatar 108 comments on here, 80% of them Sens fans "rubbing it in". Classy!

Toronto absolutely owned the Sabres for 50 minutes tonight. They can do it again tomorrow.

Gravatar "who's everyone's second fav?"
Whoever knocks the Sens out in the first round, so most likely the Happy feet

Aw c'mon! We can get behind being Canadian at least, can't we? I'd root for the Leafs if they had a better chance of winning the cup. It's not my fault they're terrible.

108 comments on here, 80% of them Sens fans "rubbing it in". Classy!

It's just nice to have what you've been saying all along finally borne out. Rebuild or go for broke, those are two options I can get behind. Hoping to squeak in at 8th and have a miracle run is just annoying.

Gravatar to be fair, you can't blame Raycroft alone for this loss. They gave up so many odd man rushes and golden opportunities towards the end and Raycroft bailed them out big time on a lot of them. They could easily have gotten 7 or 8 goals.

I don't even think King Roberto Luongo could have saved the Leafs in that third period. That third period contained fifteen minutes of the most most careless defensive lapses I have ever seen.

Gravatar After watching that game, I'm pretty sure I know who'll be representing the East in the Stanley Cup this year.

Miller was something else!

Gravatar I think some Leaf fans are beginning to realize what the rest of us have been saying all along about Tucker.
This fan is bang on:

The Leafs will never win if they keep vastly overrated players like Tucker on their team. On the winning goal, he went for a useless bodycheck instead of getting back on defense and Buffalo gets a 3 on 2 and scores. He was a minus 2 tonight and is MINUS 17 for the year and he missed 2 months, otherwise he would probably be minus 30. He has 8 even strength goals in 48 games. For the Leafs fans who continuously cheer this bum for his "grittiness and heart", he's a detriment to his team. They were over .500 while he was away for those 2 months. I just don't get it. Grittiness and heart was Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour. Tucker is a fraud.

Gravatar Weren't leaf fans were saying tucker was going to get $5M a year from some other team so the leafs got a deal.

It's a great deal if you want your team to use big chunks of the cap on one dimensional punching bags.

Gravatar Toronto absolutely owned the Sabres for 50 minutes tonight.

50 mins Muppet? Maybe 20 mins.

They owned most of the first but needed a 5 on 3 to get something out of it.

The 2nd period was fairly even. It was boring compared to the 1st and 3rd.

The leafs got a nice goal and a fluke goal early in the 3rd.

Then the 'Slugs showed up for the final 15 min and turned it into a bloodbath.....

Gravatar Hey Conrad, who says the Lefs aren't rebuilding at the moment? Is there a rule that says you have to give away every player of any value for draft picks to be "rebuilding"?
Last I checked we have a goaltender on contract long enough to get Pogge up here, 6 or 7 players all around 23 years old, and TONS of flexibility next year as far as contarcts expiring and so forth.
Toronto, if JFJ so desires, could have a completely different team next year built around the veteran core of Kaberle, Mcabe, Kubuna and Tucker. Even SUndin's contract is a club option.

In the meantime the team is trying to defeat all the naysayers and actually make the playoffs. Lets keep it in perspective here, we all know making the playoffs means anythig can happen. I haven't read any comments from Leaf fans on here saying we're the best team in the NHL, or Cup favourites. However, we're still gonna hope for the best. If Toronto, with over 300 man games lost actually exceds pre-season expectations, then the team has over-acheived and that's all we can ask. People foget this team went from a $67M payroll to a $37M payroll. We're still paying Tie Domi and Ed Belfour for christ's sake.

Toronto outplayed Buffalo last night. Anybody who watched the game (even DC, alone in his tattered chair beneath the single hanging light bulb in his dingy bachelor apt) would have to agree; and they can do it all again tonight and split the two game series which everyone agreed was the best case scenario against a clearly better hockey club.

The game starts at 7pm. We'll find out then.

In the meantime enjoy the slagging. It hurt to see the Leafs lose last night, but comments from a fanbase who thinks it's OK to win the presidenst trophy or damn near it every year only to get pummeled in the playoffs every year... well what do you know? Give me a break.

Gravatar but comments from a fanbase who thinks it's OK to win the presidenst trophy or damn near it every year only to get pummeled in the playoffs every year... well what do you know?

when did we ever say it was OK to do this?

Look the Leafs did dominate the 1st, the shots 21-9 in their favor. But please don't try to say the dominated the rest of the game. The second was pretty much even, and the third was a disaster for them. Once again I want to point out that this wasn't entirely Raycroft's fault...the team gave him zero support and gave Buffalo way too many quality chances.

I've given props to the Leafs here when they were deserved...they were winning earlier in the season with basically an AHL team, but a preformance like the 3rd last night is simply unacceptable and not gonna do it. I've said that before with the Bruins (way too many times) and I've said it about the Sens when it needed to be said.

Gravatar "In the meantime enjoy the slagging. It hurt to see the Leafs lose last night, but comments from a fanbase who thinks it's OK to win the presidenst trophy or damn near it every year only to get pummeled in the playoffs every year... well what do you know? Give me a break."

Ha, do you even know what you are talking about?

Gravatar Errrr, I swore I wrote more.

Anyways, if you think the Sens fans are happy with their team's playoff performance, you're an idiot.

If the Sens were the team struggling to get into the playoffs, we'd hear it just as much as you guys do.

It is, of course, what this site is about, no?

Gravatar It is, of course, what this site is about, no?

Yup, and come playoff time, one way or another, you folks will hear a lot of the same stuff.

Gravatar It's complete with all the hair raising creativity of an Alan Thicke one-liner.

Funny, I would assume that a Thicke zinger would be over the head of most Buffalo fans. Although with the preponderance of mustaches in the area a case could also be made that he is their hero.
