More proof that merely playing in the city of Toronto makes you suck.

More proof that merely playing in the city of Toronto makes you suck.
I'll accept that. So long as you accept that playing in the playoffs with Ottawa makes you disappear?
Hossa does have 8 playoff goals with the Pens, after all. A far cry from his ghost impersonations in Kanata - a role now filled admirably by Heatley and Spezza.

By that poorly thought out argument, Hossa should have been a powerhouse in Atlanta just by getting out of Ottawa. In-vis-i-ble.

Somehow I doubt mine is the first or the last poorly thought out argument on BoO.

THM, how do you post a highlighted link like that in Haloscan?
Think Redden will be a Panther or an Oiler come September?

It's highlighted? Not here. Regular old href html.
Redden will sign with the leafs for a 2 year $7Mper contract and get paired up with McCabe. Here's hoping.

haahahahaha loved this justification:
Also to be considered, on Redden's behalf, is how a player of his stature taking what amounts to a 50% haircut would go over with his union brotherhood, especially when it appears there would be a market out there for Redden to make close to what he is making now.
A defenceman of his stature? It's almost like this was written 6 years ago...
As for Gill, he's always been great and I've always said so. Glad to hear that Crosby agrees with my assessment.
Also, that PK next year is going to be atrocious.

Do you really hate the kid that much that you're willing to watch his career die in the first year?

Ouch! That hurts, especially coming from somebody who cheered on the Daigle era.

Who says I cheered on the Daigle era? I was an Oil fan back then. That dude ruined his own career.

You were an Oiler fan?
I'm not being cheeky, just really curious. How did you stop cheering for a team and start cheering for another?
I lived in Vancouver for most of my adult life, and never once even considered switching sides. Sure, I started liking the Canucks a bit more so long as they weren't playing the Leafs, but never would I leave a team. Even one as bad as the Leafs.

I grew up in Oshawa and was surrounded by Leaf fans whom were entirely obnoxious to me growing up. I lived on the same street as Kevin McLelland and all of us idolized him and his smokin' Corvette Stingray (candy apple red) - he used to shoot the puck with the kids at the top of the hill. That's how I became an Oiler fan originally. Proximity to greatness amidst global suckage.
When he scored the winning goal in their first SC victory, we shut down the street and had a city sponsored fete with live band, etc. Pretty much the whole Edm team was there. I, stupidly, dissed 11 & 99 in trying to get Kevin's autograph. That Mess rookie card in my safe would've been worth a hell of a lot more....

I probably didn't communicate my question very well. I wasn't asking why you're not a Leaf fan, I'm asking why you became a Sens fan when clearly you had a huge bond with the Oilers? I would think that something like that would be for life.
Cool story though. Back then hockey players were a lot more down home.
From 1982 to 1984 we lived three doors down from Paul Coffey's sister. Her son and I were not great friends (he was older), but Paul would come up once in a while and there would be a gathering at their place. Everyone wanting autographs and such. I always liked Wayne Gretzky, who didn't, and we lived in Fort McMurray for a year when I was 6 and I used to watch the Oilers with my Dad, but when I got really into hockey later on I was back in Ontario and got in to the Leafs and I was a Leaf fan for life.
I figure most Ottawa fans became Sens fans because the team came to them, and they just switched somehow. I just can't see how that would ever happen for me.

I guess I got sidetracked with my response. I'm still an Oil fan. They're my #2 team now, though. It was more around the time Pocklington traded away Gretzky that I began to distance myself from that team. I was disillusioned by what Peter Puck had done. I didn't believe that P.P. cared about hockey so much as the mighty buck.
It wasn't until about '97 that I had any real loyalty to a team. I moved to Ottawa in 95 and it took about 2 years before I got into real fandom again. I'm now hooked on the Sens.
I was a bit of a Bruins fan for a few of the intermediate years. My mom grew up with Bobby Orr (same baby sitter or something like that) and I spent every 3rd weekend in Parry Sound growing up so the whole Bears thing kind of set in for a bit. Until I realized it was the Bruins and I dropped that pretty quick.
Ottawa has done damn well regarding fan bases for being sandwiched between the two biggest NHL teams. It'll be great in 10 to 20 years before the leaf and habs fans around here start dying of liver poisoning, lung cancer and mental health related illnesses.

Prediction: When Pavel Kubina gets traded he will make significant contributions to his new team and gain praise from the Toronto media.
Why? Not because he is actually going to play better but because the Toronto media aren't going to just assume he sucks because he is a Leaf defenseman and thus might actually evaluate him fairly without the negative bias they always evaluate Leaf players with, particularly defensemen.
The fact is Hal Gill played quite well in Toronto and was probably a bargain for the relatively small salary he was making.
The same can be said for Pavel Kubina who had 11 goals and 40 points and played a solid, physical two-way game. Unfortunately Toronto media can't see past his contract and evaluate him fairly and based on his performance his contract is not all that bad.

Why can't the toronto media embrace mediocrity like the fans have?
How dare they be critical of our boys...just because they make a shitload of money and can't make the playoffs doesn't mean they should be critical....
Why can't they just lower their standards....500 million rats and shitflies can't be wrong....can they?

Mathieu shneider. Ran out of town.
jason smith. Sent on his way.
Both here during non-playoff stints. A losing team makes good players look bad, and good teams can make a guy like holik a millionaire.
