Let's not forget, when we generously throw around terms like "battled back", "a war out there", and "gave it there all" that these terms have real meaning. We reference them because, in other much greater contexts, they are true.
We use these terms out of respect for those who truly did all of the above, and suffered by death, dismemberment and mental anguish.
War is hell, and lest we forget those who have had to endure it, no matter the cause, the right, or the reason.
Thank-you, those of you among us, past and present, who have, and will, "give it your all" on all of our behalfs.

Nov.11 always hits me kind of hard. Not because I lost anyone in the war... in fact, it's just the opposite.
My one grandfather flew fighter planes in WWII and was shot down over occupied France. He spent almost 2 months sneaking around Nazis before finally reaching the allies.
My other grandfather was too young for WWII, but went to Korea instead. The boat, carrying about 2500 Canadian soldiers dropped them off at the beach, turned around and was hit by a torpedo before it even left the harbour.
I was this close to having never existed, as if either of those events had unfolded even slightly differently, neither of my parents would have existed either. It's not only the ones we lose that we have to thank, it's the ones that narrowly escape disaster that we should thank every single day... not just once a year.

Nice stories everybody.
Thanks for the post THM. It actually reminded me to stop and feel the sadness of what this day actually represents.
