I recall that for some reason Consumer Reports has believed Mercury products to be more reliable than Ford. It has been a while since I read this; they were comparing Taurus and Sable, and had no explanation for thier conclusions. If this is true, maybe it is Ford that needs to be canned, not Mercury.
