Interesting statistics in the comparison between Spanish and Texan, but I've never heard of Texan before. How does Spanish rate next to something more threatening, say, H5N1? |

They've not done those side-by-side yet, so it's hard to compare (methods, dosages, strain of mouse, etc. may be different). But human H5N1 viruses have been pretty nasty in mice--they also replicate to a high titer, and generally kill 100% within ~10 days. I'd guess they'd be pretty similar to the 1918 stats if done in parallel. |

It's now 29 April 2009. The WHO has upgraded the pandemic alert to 5 out of 6. I wonder if I'll be one of the victims because I live in Long Beach, Ca. |
