Will those poems be about her Dad? Will they be angry and bitter? Fatherhood offers up all these post-literate possibilities. I can't wait to attend my middle child's first slam poetry contest where she will rail at the grim scenarios of her childhood in which I will be the omnipresent, onerous antagonist.

Awesome. We are fans of 10 Minutes Till Bedtime fans from way back and didn't know about the web complement, so we'll have to check that out. Thanks for the tip!
We're shaking our heads at Julia's use of "e're" over here, and laughing as we try to imagine Lyle saying that anytime soon. It's impossible. (He doesn't eat books and spit them out the way Baxter and Julia do!) However, we have been enjoying his joke telling of late - he gets a good joke and then freelances with it till the cows come home (e.g., "Why did the rubber chicken cross the road?" - "To get the gnocchi!").

"Get the gnocchi!" is my new catchphrase. Don't tell Lyle!
If/when Julia starts writing poetry, I think it's going to be heavy on the introspection - not necessarily dark, dark stuff, but insanely concerned with analyzing feelings. In other words, it'll be just like her now, only written down in secret, secret notebooks. I can't imagine how sweet old me will figure in them!
