Comments on Blowing & Drifting

Gravatar "There's a stiff northwest wind (gusting to 20mph), but with the air temp being so high - right around freezing - I felt fine. I even had to take off my mittens." = now THAT could only be uttered by someone from Minnesota. It sure was pretty out there, wasn't it?

Gravatar Gorgeous. We've had more than our share of really beautiful snow this year...

Gravatar I love running in the snow, and running in the cold doesn't bother me in the least. I've come back from sub-zero runs minus my hat and mittens.

Too much fresh snow makes the footing a little treacherous at times, and the feet get heavy, but I love the looks I get.

Wind, I do not like, even on warm days. I hate the feeling that I'm being held up in my stride, but not out of my physical limits... like running while someone is holding onto your shirt from behind.

I'm also, usually, a "night runner". I do not, by nature and by choice wake up easily. I'm a night person, and that extends to my running. Yes, it's more dangerous, but I like that fewer people see you. It's also usually quite quieter.

When I run races, I secretly wish that these people had to race against me at night. I've never seen a road race that starts later than 11 a.m. Bummer.

Gravatar I agree with Brendon--I hate it that races start early in the morning! I'm not a night person by any stretch, but I'm certainly not a morning person either! I run best between about 4 and 7 p.m.!

Gravatar A night race would be great - out on the roads, somewhere, so there's little light? I'd be all over that. Work and children meant that I couldn't work out this winter excpet in the dark, and I grew to love it. There's the gadget thing (headlamp, extra clothes), the hell-yeah thing (you feel faster in the dark), and the solitude thing (in about 60 hours of skiing in the Arb, I think I met three other people, total). I'm looking forward to an hour running at dusk in the Arb tonight...

Gravatar Every summer theres a 5-miler that starts at like 7pm around where I live.
