People like Belgian Eddie piss me off. There is an attitude that's fairly common down here that anybody who is in a service industry is by definition a servant - in the feudal sense. I think most of them are just trying to compensate for their perceived inadequacies.
Apart from the fact that I suffer from congenital egalitarianism I have found that the advice given to me when I first 'went bush' - "Always be nice to the cook" has stood me in good sense in the broader sense; I have found that I generally get better than average service. And I go home feeling good about myself.

Jen I like you more all the time.
This tool was trying to provoke (among other things). And he needs to justify his own selfishness, so he disparages the Bartender. Pathetic.
The reason I like you is that you did what I generally choose to do: not respond in kind, because I will not also be a tool, and I have the power to be better. Let these people wallow in their own friggin' misery, I say.
Man, that could apply to a lot of pathetic, negative, miserable losers, don't you think? I've ranted.

Wade, you're cool, your blog is fun, and your rants kick ass. Please keep commenting, ok? You illuminate the place.
And Dirk, I do know it's Dirk, I just kinda like it my way better. I'll be good from now on, because I love your blog.

David Friedman recently talked about tips, too. Good on the question of why people tip when they will never see someone again.
