Epoch was in the news on this story a short time ago, which you folks posted on sometime around March 18 when Drezner had noticed it. I did a long post on it because there were some questions about Epoch Times.
This is an Falun Gong sponsored resignation campaign, from both CCP and CYL, of which Epoch is affliated. The people resigning include dead people, so I am not sure what this adds 200,000 in March, which then also included dead people. I'd certainly be interested in knowing how many of the prominent people they mention are also Falun Gong members.
Just to note, the photo of the Chinese soldiers was taken at a ceremony held on Qingming, which is like Honor Ancestors Day and the swearing of fidelity is a common part of it.
Don't get me wrong, I sympathize with the Epoch campaign for change in China. I'm just not sure the Chinese top dogs are in the same mindset as the Soviet top dogs were in their last years, and therefore have much more concern for unrest in China getting out of hand. It isn't 1989 ... oops, dinner time. Later.
