Congratulations John. We will keep you and your family in our prayers down here in Houston.

I had no skin in this World Series. I'm happy for you Southsiders and I would have been happy for my neighbors here in Houston had they won.

I was thinking about what my favorite and most exciting Professional sporting event was and I think it had to be when the Phillies won in 1980.(The World Series that made hemmorhoids famous). We had just moved to Toledo from Philly and probably were a little homesick. The World Series was a temporary cure but I'll never forget how excited my Dad was when the Phils won. That year the Eagles went to the Super Bowl, Flyers went to the Cup (I think) and the Sixaer lost to LA in the NBA Finals.

#2 Ok this is a weird one... I never cheered so hard for a team than a couple years back (I think 2001)when the SIXERS made the championship. The one win we had against LA was probably the second greatest moment because everyone expected LA to sweep. You may not like AI but he willed this team to the Championship round with the help of Larry Brown. AI proved to the world he has heart. "we talkin practice, practice!"

#3 when the Bears won in 85-86. I don't think there have been many better defenses that took the field than that Bear team. (that was the year we got to see Joe Theisman's leg snap like a twig on MNF) This also began my love affair with Buddy Ryan.

Yankee fans... yes, extremely obnoxious. But there is nothing worse than a Cowboy fan.

Some of my favorite moments in Eagles history:
1) fans throwing snowballs at Jimmy Johnson
2) fans booing Irvin when he was taken off the field form his career ending injury
3) fans booing Aikman after the Eagles provided him with his last concussion
4) The Bounty Bowl - $100 for who ever takes out the Cowboys kicker - you gotta love Buddy Ryan.
5) not a Cowboy game but another great Buddy Ryan defense story- MNF v. the Redskins - Eagles defense knocked out 3 QBS and the Redskins were left playing Brian Mitchell(RB) at QB.

The guy in the office next to me has been reminding me that all the Katrina evacuees that moved to Houston ire going to put Houston very close if not past Chicago in the next Census. In a town where a championship trophy has never been you look for the possibility of victory wherever you can find it. (remember the AFC Championship game where the Oilers pulled out to a huge halftime lead (35-0 maybe) only to lose to the Bills).

It looks like you've done your part in keeping Chicago ahead of Houston in the census. Hope all is well with your daughter.

OK John apparently you didn't have a daughter. What do you expect from a liberal... they never get there facts straight.

Good thoughts to Dave and family.

Great read Dave, I hope your daughter and wife are doing well. I agree that the watching the playoffs was annoying but it was fun knowing that our Sox were making the announcers look like fools.

I learned one important thing from your letter. No sex nine months away from the playoffs.

Dave,
quite a treatise! Yes the announcers are annoying for their tunnel vision and lowered expectations of any team east of Philly. But not surprised. As Chicago man and Chicago fan you just learn to shake you head at the comments coming from the coastal talking heads. They don't know...they just don't know.

Prayers for you daughter's swift recovery and for you family.

Great read, Dave. Your daughter will be getting all my good thoughts, since I don't have to send any to the White Sox any more.

Reading your thoughts on how having a baby puts even a World Series winner in perspective reminds me of what Paulie said about his Game 2 slam. Having just seen the birth of his son days before, he said it's not very often tat you can hit a grand slam in a World Series game and have it be the SECOND best thing that happened to you that week. You understand that sentiment as well as anybody.

Sox are slated for three games at the Trop May 16-18. Mid-week (again!) which stinks for us teacher types, but I, still hope to see you at one of those games.
