I read the article "Reagan's Missile Defense:
It's Still Imperative Today". Although you can make
the case for warding off these "rougue" nations and
their potential to launch ICBMs at the United
States, we forget one thing:
GAME OVER
Iran just launched their first sub-to-surface
missile. The projectile (nuclear "capable") only
went the short distance of one mile and struck it's
target.
There is no missile defense system that can stop a
one-mile (or even a hundred mile) launch from a
submarine. If Iran now wants to stealth close to
the U.S., they are unstoppable at sending a nuke
high above either coast and dessimating either a
city or our entire economy with the electro-magnetic
pulse.
The end of the American Way is upon us and there
is no protection. We are held at gunpoint and the
time of attack is of their choosing.
Get this through our heads - they want death to
America and are willing do what it takes to make us
ineffective in defending Israel. Tel Aviv may be
the first target, where we will be forced to
watch...the good news is that we will finish in the
"Top 2".
I repeat, GAME OVER. George Bush is doing
something about 40 years too late, and I give him
credit for the old college try.
We get two choices, preemption or
retaliation.....I know mine, how about yours?

Higman,
Is this Kevin?
You make a very good case for preemption but one of your assumptions is flawed. Their submarines have no chance of approaching the US unnoticed. Their submarines are non-nuclear and very noisy. Also, they must leave from Iran and are watched via hunter subs and satellite.
A hidden nuke on a container ship or via terrorist over our border is more likely and more stealthy.
