Maybe re-name the entire city... PUPPETTOWN! Logical since Piper and the Dodgers are pulling the strings. Pathetic how they have the entire city kissing their collective arses... |
Mr. Harry, you and the other naysayers should be kissing the "collective arses" of Piper. Let em tell you why. I was born in a community that was slightly larger than Vero Beach, about 22,000 population. The town was clean, a great place to raise kids and provided many jobs at good wages for the people in the region. The industry was steel. When the mills began to slow down and eventually close, the economy was in the crapper. That was in the early '70's. Economists say that the area is not likely to recover in less than three generations - that's 100 years! To this day you can buy a nice 40 year old home for about $45,000.00. These homes would sell for about $200,000 in Vero Beach. I do not think many new homes have been built there in the past 40 years. |

Piper's had VB by the short-hairs for years, and they know it. And they love seeing the city beg (inside source). Do you, even for a minute, actually believe they give a rats [removed] about the "comminity"? Hopefully their Tallahassee bound... |

Those morons interested in the cubs ought to move to Chicago and leave the rest of us and our money alone. |

Thank you again Mr. Burke for another intelligent, thought-provoking post. |

IF the Cubs come anywhere close to the Treasure Coast, you can bet my husband and I will be there. |

Hey GUFFANTI you SCHMUCK - I told you to get back under your rock. |

Greg, your analogy doesn't work. Vero Beach is not dependent on Piper, as your community was on steel. Yes, they employ many people, but they have been gone before (bankruptcy in the 90's) and Vero Beach and the county survived. |
How about ghost town or slum town, better yet welfare town...That is what Vero Beach will be known as if Piper packs and goes else where.Yes Piper went under once before and there were alot less people living here then.Working for the city or the county will be out of the question because they won't need the people they already have working for them. Ask the stores and resturants if they want to lose Piper and their well paid employees(and the employees money)Anybody with an IQ over 10 will have Piper stay but make them sign a contract to stay in Vero for 25 or 30 years so they can't ditch us like the Dodgers did. |
Hold on. When Piper left Lakeland for Vero Beach, that town did not wither up and die. Remember when Piper all but shut down in the late 80s and 90s? Piper came back finally, but one has a feeling that they are just one or two bad periods from folding all together. I say make it good for them to stay, but don't completely sell out to keep them. |
BRING ON THE CUBS! This county has already ben duped by the Dodgers and I can't wait until they're gone. |
I agree with Mr. Lee, we should give piper some incentive to stay but for God sake we should't let them bring us to our knees. Vero is a great place to live, raise a family and work. If that is not good enough for Piper, let them go. After all isn't the grass always greener on the other side of the hill? |
Don't let them use I95 - that brings them to Georgia, and they might want to stay. Let them use I-10 and go to Arizona. |
Listen closely...you can hear Piper whistling to their pup...here vero, whistle, whistle, come on girl, roll over. |
