Gravatar Thanks for this posting! I was wondering where the outcry was for the horrible depiction we're getting. Aquaman on the other hand, looked awesome. I wonder who had the bright idea to make Garth's skin gray? Ugh.

Gravatar Yep, that's Garth.

Gosh that TT: Year One Aqualad is dreadful.

Benton Grey contributed...

Gravatar Yeah, I think the story seems okay, but they way they draw poor Garth is just HORRIBLE.

Gravatar Isn't anybody going to cut them some slack for artistic innovation? While I might not like the new visual, I will give them credit for trying something different in an effort to move product and motivate interest.
Of course, using the Teen Titans cartoon look for Aqualad as a basis might be more appealing in a redesign, but, I'm not the artist.

Gravatar Steve: Nope. You draw an iconic character looking like a bucktoothed fish and most fans of the character are going to be annoyed. This isn't innovation, it's an insult.

Note that none of the other characters look nearly as ugly.

If Aqualad simply looked different, and not hideous, I wouldn't complain as much.

Gravatar Well, all I have to say is that Aqualad in Tiny Titans, complete with his little goldfish and bowl, is absolutely adorable. I could just pinch his little Atlantean-exiled cheeks!

Gravatar Yeah, you know, innovation is one thing, but there is creativity, and then there is ugly. In modern literary criticism (which has bled over into a great deal of the mainstream conception of artistic value) creativity is valued over everything else. The problem is that, just because it is new, does not mean that it is necessarily good. Aqualad looks hideous. The redesign from Teen Titans didn't have anyone complaining, and that's because it actually looked GOOD.
