Gravatar Good counter-rant, Laura. I have been enjoying the book as well, especially the last few issues. And while Orin's "death" is unnerving, I didn't even for once think of NOT picking up the next issue, or the next 100 issues.

Gravatar I'll admit, i want Orin back. The sooner the better. And i've voiced that opinion, and i'm sticking by it.

I'm still enjoying the book though, i've never said different. In fact i just re-read Busiek's run, and i really enjoyed it (so much so, it made me wish he'd finished more issues).

I can understand why people don't interpret reading about Dwellar as reading about Orin, especially in the last 4 issues. I liked it during the first arc, Dwellar was playing such a large role that it actually felt like it was still Orin's story more than anyone elses.

But the Dwellar and Orin are two completely different characters. Linked, yes, but different.

Gravatar Good points, Laura. I agree with you that people just need to understand the story is still unfolding and the end will come (with the eventual return of Aquaman)- I just think people get impatient with the pacing. It's sometimes frustrating when you're reading one episode of a story arc one issue a month, sometimes less, and feel like the story is moving along at all. For example, the recent Justice League arc took eight months to get the team together and for us to see a conclusion. The Sword of Atlantis has been over year and I can see why some impatient people may whine, as good as the story may be. This world moves at a brisk pace, and things happen quickly. Who knows who's going to be working on the Aquaman book next and when? I think people are kind of scared that this could be yet another incomplete Aquaman saga, left ignored because of changes of creative direction and personnel. I dont know, maybe comic book companies should start creating smaller story arcs or just wait to publish complete stories in paperbacks since people can't seem to wait.
Anyway, I'm in for the long haul and look forward what is going to happen to all our favorite characters!

Gravatar Bingo, Jeffery! We as Aquaman fans have no luxury for waiting for the storyline to end, cause 90% of the time the writers creative vision is never finished.

We don't have inside information like you! We don't talk to creators, and when they do they don't share no secrets with us.

Kurt Busiek might have had a vision, but he abandoned the book. Peroid!

This is a monthly book! If it doen't satisfy on monthly basis, guess what its failing! And it will be canceled!

Plus, we are getting posts from Tad Williams that say, that he has no control over who he writes about, and if we want to read about Original Aquaman we have to write to DC.

Wow! Can you misread Tad's words any more than that? Tad said he's writing EXACTLY what he wants to write, and if you have an issue with it, then get a group together and bombard DC with letters... instead of simply dropping the book which will just say you don't like "Aquaman" and won't tell DC that it's the new Aquaman that you are annoyed with.

Sheesh.

As for the rest, you don't need insider information to know that Tad is bringing Orin back. In the very same note that you so completely misunderstood Tad said that he had plans for BOTH CHARACTERS for a long time to come.

As for Kurt, yes, he abandoned the character. But before he did so, he gave all his notes to Tad, who plans to use some of those ideas. So "period" doesn't quite work. Busiek's fingers are still in the pie for awhile to come.

As for the time thing... yes. I agree. If Guice had been super-human instead of just a normal artist, if the issues had come out once a month as planned, then we'd be further along in the saga and I bet there would be less discontent. But it's still a story, and stories will not be rushed unless you want crappy stories.

After Aquaman's appearance in WWIII, I've heard from a number of people who suddenly wanted to pick up the book to find out what happens to Orin. I hope that's a trend and not an anomaly. I hope Tad gets to finish this tale. I have personal reasons for wanting this particular storyline to finish out.

If I hated the book, I could understand your complaints. But I've liked the book since the beginning of Kurt's run (and before) so it's hard for me to watch these whines and stay quiet.

Gravatar Sword.
Sword of Atlantis.
[sound of hand slapping forehead]

Uh, okay. I'll shut up now.

Can I still be snarky about prefering "Arthur" to "Orin"?

Hey, I'm a fan of very little brain ...

Gravatar First of all, Not everyone has the same opinion, calling people whiners, for having a different opinion from you, is immature.

I never said his not bringing Orin back, its a just a question of when? Like when is John Arcudi gonna deal with all the Sub Diego plotlines? he didn't get to finish that, did he?

My problem is that I have to read about a bland boring character for the next couple of issues, until Orin resurfaces and the book could be canceled by then.

If I'm not satisfied with the book on a monthly basis, and guess what there is alot of us, the book won't last. Have you seen Aquaman's track record!

Gravatar First of all, Not everyone has the same opinion, calling people whiners, for having a different opinion from you, is immature.

If you'd meant to say that first, you would've. Anyway, why not call them whiners? That's what they are doing. I whine at times as well, and I'm happy when people point it out. Whining is not pretty behavior, and is much more immature than having someone point out that you are whining...

But that's beside your point. You are worried that the book will be canceled before you get what you want out of it. A valid point. It'll happen if you and all the whiners dump the book from sheer impatience. Aquaman's always been a book on the edge.

But there are quite a few fans who like the book, enjoy the new character (who is not bland and boring, in my opinion), and are eagerly awaiting the finish of this tale. The difference is in how we deal with the wait.

I can't get upset about the possibility of the book being canceled anymore. It's been canceled or almost canceled or restarted too many times since I became a fan for me to care. Aquaman will be back. And Orin hasn't been replaced, so I can't even get upset about that.

So I rant. Which is actually a bit of a whine, now that I reread it.

Gravatar I must say the Busiek's Sword of Atlantis was a terrible run. Maybe some people liked it but I did not. I'm giving Tad a try and so far its good, at best. As far as people saying they would like to see the real AC come back, well so would I. And not in the Dweller form. But thats my opinion. I'm not whining, I'm just yawning everytime I read these SOA issues.
