Gravatar I for one am interested to see this--not because I want to see Bush killed--but because I'd like to see how they address the effect of political asassination on policy and public political support.
Coulter ( and Malkin and others) has suggested many times the assassination of various public figures, but apparently they were all "in jest". Some on the left have made similiar statements and similar defensive claims when critisized. However I warrant that those on the "Right" are presented as serious commenters and only fall back on claims of satire after criticism. On the left the equivalent statements usually come from satirists and humorists (and some extremists too) who are rarely if ever are invited on serious news shows and are NEVER represented as SERIOUS commenters whose comments are based on seriusly informed and relevant information, rather than finding absurdity to generate a laugh.

Killing a political leader rarely if ever changes the policies that the leader champions, but it does change the political landscape. How many US presidents have been assassinated and how many have been subject to attempts? Compare that record to the the French, the British, the Indian democracies. Every society breeds political assassins, Bush's presidency arguably may have generated more would-be assassins than the average, thus it is worht considering the possibility and then what might occur afterwards. There's a huge difference between conjecture and assumption. The program to be aired I assume will be conjecture. Those already criticising it before- hand seem to be assuming without conjecture. It may indeed be crap but until we get to see what is still just fiction withhold judgement and simply stick to discussing the conjecture in the meantime?

Gravatar Unlike the left, I support whoever is President

Wow, I never knew that a 6 year witchhunt, numerous destroyed lives, culminating in impeachment could be construed as 'supporting the president'.

OK...I'm on board!

Gravatar Simon, I agree with you completely. It is conjecture (not advocacy, as the wingnuts seem to think), and it sounds like it could be fascinating if it's well done (and the Brits have a good track record with political drama, IMO). If it did happen, what would be the causes? What would be the effects? Is there anyone who isn't genuinely curious about that--curious enough to speculate?

Yup, count me in too.

Gravatar Great post, Tom!

And, Kvatch, thanks for pointing me over here!

Gravatar Thanks, John!

Gravatar John...my pleasure.

Tom hits topics with a depth and insight that I can't even touch. (And despite that he still let me guest blog over over here. No accounting for taste, I guess. )

Gravatar That is certainly (at least) an exaggeration, Kvatch...but thanks anyway!
