These are deeply, deeply repressed people we're dealing with here. Your point's well taken, Tom, but I see Althouse as more of a Church Lady type than a 12-year-old. Twelve-year-olds have a healthy sense of wonder about such things. Twelve-year-olds can be inspired. These people are just anxious, confused and fraught. They're Bush's people at heart, all right.

Ahab, you have a point...then again, the Church Lady approach is rooted in a stunted, immature sexuality...so in a sense, they're two sides of the same coin (with the essential difference that immaturity is age-appropriate in a 12 year old).
